In April of 2007, the B'nai David community lost one of its crown jewels, Marilynn Lowenstein, who was a passionate lover and advocate of women's Torah learning. This shiur allows our community to take pride in our past and is a central part of our Shavuot celebration. The most important thing that you can do is to attend! (We are expecting to be able to provide childcare during the shiur.) Scholar in Residence - Rabbi Aryeh Klapper is Dean of the Center for Modern Torah Leadership and Rosh Beit Midrash of its renowned Summer Beit Midrash program. He is a popular lecturer and author whose ideas and positions influence Orthodox communal policy on issues ranging from tuition, to abuse allegations, to mental health. He is also an internationally consulted posek whose writings on medical ethics, military ethics, and Jewish divorce are cited by both academic and traditional scholars.

Morah Deborah Klapper is a literacy-focused Torah educator who enjoys thinking about big-picture interpretations of Tanach narratives. After many years as a classroom teacher and school administrator, Morah Klapper is now a full-time tutor, teaching adults and children to read and understand the texts of our tradition independently, so they can form their own relationships with Hashem and truly inherit their heritage. Her international tutoring practice ranges in a typical week from alef-bet to Tanach to Talmud to Yoreh Deah. She holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard College and certificate from the Drisha Scholars' Circle. She lives and works in Sharon, MA.
