A MESSAGE FROM
THE RABBI
Parashat Chukkat begins by describing an odd law which requires the location of a red cow that will be sacrificed, its ashes will then be used to purify anyone coming in contact with a dead body. Sounds weird doesn’t it? Sometimes the Torah is like that. If you want to learn more about this red cow, and the ritual surrounding it, email me, text me, or call me. I look forward to your questions or comments.

I do want to reference briefly one piece of text. At the beginning of the Parasha, God tells Moses to “Instruct the Israelite people to bring you a red cow without blemish….” It is an instruction to “all” of the people, not the priests and not the leaders. This indicates two things. First, red cows (without even one non-red hair) are extremely rare, thus the entire community needs to be involved in the search. Secondly, but perhaps not as apparent, when an entire community is involved, it strengthens that community.

It is with the knowledge that an involved community is strong and healthy that I reference some of what is going on in the JCC Community below. Become involved in as many activities as you can!!

This past Wednesday I stopped off at Wally’s to say hello to the members of the Women’s Auxiliary who participated in the group’s Paid-Up Membership Luncheon. First, Wally’s has a really nice outside dining section. Second, thought I did not stay to eat, I saw the food as it was being service and it all looked awesome. Third, it was nice to see so many WAX members in one place, enjoying each other’s company. There was talking, laughing, comradery, and eating.

Don’t forget to join the JCC of LBI for a beach service Friday, July 8th at 6:00 PM in Loveladies. (The beach is just south of St. Clare’s Church by the public tennis courts). Please join us!

This coming Sunday, July 10th, come to a concert at the JCC of LBI featuring the musical stylings of John Ciotta. John is a world-class entertainer, singer, and percussionist. If you have not yet bought tickets, visit the JCC website (WWW.JCCofLBI.ORG) or call the office.

JULY BOOK
Wednesday, July 13 at 4:00 PM
Concealed by By Esther Amini

Esther Amini grew up in Queens, New York, during the freewheeling 1960s. She also grew up in a Persian-Jewish household, the American-born daughter of parents who had fled Mashhad, Iran. In Concealed, she tells the story of being caught between these two worlds: the dutiful daughter of tradition-bound parents who hungers for more self-determination than tradition allows.

RSVP to Debby Schweighardt, Book Group Coordinator at: [email protected]

A Zoom link will be sent shortly before the event.

Herb and Selma z”l Shapiro established the first individual Endowment Fund in memory of his father, as part of the JCC’s Endowment Fund portfolio.

Since then, three additional individual Endowment Funds have been established. Other members are encouraged to also provide for the future of our JCC by establishing similar funds. Please consider adding to this number.

A donation of at least $50,000 to the endowment fund will allow the donor to name one of the funds as the donor wishes. All such named funds will be joined together to be part of the Endowment Fund portfolio.

Endowment funds are necessary to ensure the continuation and well being of our congregation. All members are encouraged to help this important effort by contributing to this portfolio, whether as a specific named individual fund, or as a general donation. The donation can be spread over one, two, or three years, and can be paid via check, donation of appreciated stock, wills, or from the RMD of your IRA or 401K account.
