Registration and Testing
If you have been traveling, our Sha'ar Zahav Reopening Task Force strongly recommends an antigen test before attending in-person events and services at CSZ. You can find an antigen test at your CVS/Walgreens etc. If cost is a barrier to testing, please reach out to the office to pick up a test from 290 Dolores Street to administer at home. The CSZ Reopening Task Force also recommends that all who can receive the booster vaccination.
Please register below for all in-person events at Sha'ar Zahav. Even if you think you might attend, please go ahead and register. We'd prefer that you register and not show up than show up without registering. Registration helps us manage security at the door as well as provides an ability to do contact tracing, should someone come down with Covid following an in-person activity. Thank you for your help.

Bridging the Black/Jewish Divide: Finding Common Ground in the Fight Against Anti-Semitism and Racism with Guest Speaker
Beco Lichtman
January 28 (On Zoom)
Special Shabbat Service speaker!
There’s been a deeply disturbing upsurge in anti-Semitism in the United States and around the globe. Simultaneously, we continue to witness the depth and pervasiveness of anti-Black racism in American society. As each group fights back, it becomes very clear: racism and anti-Semitism need not be separate struggles. How do we identify common ground? As a Black, gay Jew, Lichtman draws on these intersections to explore the unique histories, needs, and experiences of both the Jewish and Black communities that will lead us to heal and together combat patterns of antisemitism and racism.
Brought to Sha’ar Zahav by our Racial Equity Group, Social Action Committee and L’Tarbut, our SZ group celebrating BIPOC, multiracial, and multiethnic identities.

Book Group Discussion:
The Beggar King and the Secret of Happiness: A True Story
Tuesday, February 15, 7:00 - 8:00 pm on Zoom
The Beggar King and the Secret of Happiness is an altogether original true story about a storyteller who loses his voice and believes he's lost everything. An encounter with his old teacher shows him that, in fact, he's been given a great gift. Their meetings lead him on a journey into the timeless wisdom of ancient tales—a world of beggars and kings, monks and tigers, lost horses and buried treasures—and, ultimately, toward the secret of happiness. Read and come discuss. Contact ami.zusman@berkeley.edu for more info.
