6th Grade Geniuses!
YHT Teachers Receive Grant from JEP
Albert Einstein said "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid". This idea, that all students have their own special strengths, is one of our core values at Yeshiva Har Torah. In keeping with the goals of our school to bring out the unique and special qualities of each student, 6th grade has embarked on a year-long project based loosely on the 20% time/Genius Hour model. Building on the design thinking strategies from 5th grade, and combining research, interdisciplinary learning, educational technology, and student-centered approaches, students have chosen topics to study and will create a prototype based on their learning to share with a wider audience later in the year. Thanks to a grant from the Jewish Education Project, students will have the opportunity to design and create websites, 3-D models, videos, and more! Mrs. Alissa Ossip, Mrs. Susan Rose, and Ms. Adina Bachrach, the three primary supervising teachers on this project, hope that students will enjoy their learning and find new connections between their personal interests and what they study here at YHT. Students are currently in the research phase of the project, learning more about their chosen topics, using the chromebooks and the incredible databases curated by our librarian, Mrs. Pilarski.

The 2017 PTA Book Fair was the most successful yet! Thank you to Dana Bassali, Gila Livi and Erica Scherzer for their tremendous efforts in organizing this important fundraiser! Many of the funds raised will be used to purchase books and other educational items for all grades. Thank you as well to Mrs. Pilarski for the use of the library and Tony and his crew for their assistance with set up and clean up.  Books ordered online will be arriving at school any day and will be distributed to the kids when they come in.

The biggest sellers in the Chocolate Bar Fundraiser are the GOLUB family ! They sold 22 boxes of chocolate! Prizes are on order and will be distributed when they come in (this may take some time!).  Thank you to everyone who sold chocolate bars for the PTA.
SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION WITH A LITTLE GELT
Chanukah is just around the corner! Let's show our appreciation to our children's teachers, administrators and support staff. The PTA will be collecting $25 per child for a group gift to be given on Chanukah to each teacher, administrator and support staff member.
