Dear Friends:

This weekend marks the official beginning of the High Holy Day season with our Selichot program on Saturday night, Teshuvah Through Music. We will come together to reflect on the themes of teshuvah, forgiveness, and repentance, as they have been experienced through tradition, through text, and through music.

Music can be an incredibly powerful tool, helping to invoke emotion, help us transcend space and time, elevating us to higher spiritual planes. Music has been used in one form or another since the the time of the ancient temple in Jerusalem to enhance our prayers and experience when we come together, to be together, pray together, and reflect with one another.

That is why I am incredibly excited to welcome Cantor Hanan Leberman back to Tifereth Israel. We have had several opportunities over the past year to be moved by his music. I am thrilled that he will be joining us for the next five weeks to lead us, to teach us, and to sing with us on our journey through the Holy Days together.

The first of many opportunities to be inspired and moved in prayer with Cantor Leberman will be during our Kabbalat Shabbat services, tonight, at 6:15 p.m. I hope you will join us.

Wishing you and our families a Shabbat Shalom,
