I’m staying focused in the present but find myself thinking about the future. I speak of it with our residents. We reflect on the past and wonder about what lies ahead. Some anticipate greatly the weddings and mitzvahs of their grandchildren. Others share memories of their lives, trips with spouses and friends. Some of us don’t think about the future - yet doing so provides opportunity for action. I am reminded of American composer, Jay Livingston’s arrangement and Doris Day’s voice singing….
Que Sera Sera
Whatever will be, will be,
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be.

Continuing the celebration of her 95th birthday, beautiful Hechtman resident and boutique volunteer, Rose Cooper, wore a blouse from Sharon's Boutique when she attended a performance of My Fair Lady at the Michigan Opera House. JSL's West Bloomfield residents always find a variety of affordable and fabulous choices when they shop at the JSL boutiques at both Fleischman Residence and Meer Apartments.

One out of four older adults will fall this year, but fewer than half of them will talk with their doctors about it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Per the CDC, falls are the No. 1 cause of injuries in adults over 65, resulting in hip fractures, cuts, and even serious head and brain injuries that can be fatal.
Whether it’s slippery floors, rickety stairs, or electrical cords, some of the most common causes of falls are in the home, where you might have a false sense of security. That’s why fall prevention starts with creating a safe living space.

SHABBAT SHALOM
Rabbi Dovid S. Polter, Community Chaplain
Just Look Up
Insurance Agent Moishe Zirkind recently reflected on the state of the world and said,
“Everything is really looking up!
Inflation is up 9.1% …. Interest rates are up, and an expected .75 bps to 1.00 full point rise in rates,
Rent is up. In NYC it’s reached per $5000 per month
Gas is up by 60%
Groceries and household goods are up by 10%
Even people’s sleeves are rolled up 20% more… as they work harder to bring in more
income, to pay for essentials.
What we need to do is raise up our eyes and pray to the One above…
And this will bring the blessings down.”

L’Chaim!
More than half of the residents who live in our JSL communities are considered low income or indigent. Your philanthropic support is essential to maintaining programs and services to help these older adults age with dignity and with a better quality of life. In addition, your gifts could significantly support the shortfall in the cost of pharmacy bills which are so vital to the residents’ wellness. We are so grateful for your generous gifts to Jewish Senior Life.
