THE GIFT OF YOUR STORY
By Jo Strausz Rosen
I’ve been thinking about the different ways in which we can document our lives, using technology, media, and books to leave our memories and stories for our loved ones. You have probably seen or even filled in some of the Grandparents’ Journals found in bookstores or have been gifted with custom memory books by Mixbook. The Pioneer Woman suggested, “The 10 Best Memory Books for Grandparents to Give.” Popular products include “Letters to My Grandchild,” and “Tell Me Your Story, Grandmother.”
GetSetUp
GetSetUp, an interactive learning community where older adults better their lives through the pursuit of learning, has renewed its partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

BEST FRIENDS DAY
In honor of #NationalBestFriendsDay, here are some JSL best friends.

Photo 1: Gertie Ehrlichman and Ruthie Katz’s friendship began at Central High School. Here they are at Meer Apartments sixty years later!

Photo 2: Deena Rosen and Harriet Barish met over a game of Mahjong. Fifty years later they still play together!

Photo 3: Bernice Ziskind and Rose Fink met sixty years ago as members of the B’nai Brith Morganroth Chapter. They have been friends ever since!
Meer residents, Dolores Bloch and Margaret Pathak, enjoyed making greeting cards for their best friends to celebrate the day.
THIS WEEK'S RECIPE
Shakshuka Cups

Ingredients:
12 squares of puff pastry dough
16 oz shakshuka sauce
12 eggs
4 oz crumbled feta cheese
1 bunch of parsley, finely chopped

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375′.
2. Spray a cupcake tray with oil (olive oil can be used or canola).
3. Place puff pastry squares inside cupcake mold, pressing down and up the sides, so it creates a flower shape.
4. Scoop 1 tablespoon shakshuka sauce inside puff pastry dough.
5. Crack eggs then place gently over sauce (one egg per puff pastry)
6. Place cupcake tray in oven and bake for about 15 minutes or until whites of eggs are set and the yellow is still slightly runny.

FRIDAY FUNNY
SHABBAT SHALOM
Rabbi Dovid S. Polter, Community Chaplain
Time for Time

Time is precious and it often far exceeds the value of money.

When you give time, you sacrifice your personal needs, your plans and the structure of your day. When you give of your time, you are giving of yourself.

An eighty-year-old resident, a retired physician once shared with me a moving story. When he was twenty-one years old training as a resident physician, he escorted the main physician into the rooms of his patients. Back then in the 70's, if a physician ever peaked at his watch during his meeting with his patient, it implied that things don't look good for the patient and the family must be informed soon.

At one particular meeting, the resident doctor realized the physician peaked at his watch and the fear was rather evident on his patient’s face.

Realizing the pain and discomfort felt on the face of the poor patient, prompted the resident physician to make a vow never to wear a watch. He kept his vow until his 50th wedding anniversary when his wife gifted him with a watch. When we wish to make a sincere and effective visit with someone we know, let us resolve to set aside our agendas and keep our watch concealed.
