Sometimes when I remember my father, I think about how he painstakingly planned his exit strategy. When he was sixty, he invited my brother and me into his office, opened his desk drawer files and shared with us his important documents, labeled, and organized alphabetically. Even going so far as to tell us about our future monetary gains upon his passing. Of course, at the time, my brother and I didn’t want to entertain the idea of his demise. But now that I am older, I realize that this was a thoughtful gift to us. He took care to complete lengthy forms declaring his wishes, complete with letters to each of us (that we read after he died) … and arrangements to leave monies in a trust for us. And then he lived another 39 years!

Here are a few important reminders for West Bloomfield and Oak Park residents for the August 2, 2022, Primary Election and the November 8, 2022, General Election.
-Watch your mailbox and pay attention in case your polling location has changed.
-Everyone will receive a NEW voter I.D. card, by mail, based upon redistricting.
-You can request an absentee ballot at the Clerk’s Office window up to 4 PM the Monday before an election.
-Or fill out and sign an application to request an absentee ballot. Once the Clerk’s Office receives this, you will be sent your ballot in the mail.
-You may select both the Primary and General election on the dual application.
-Your signature will be verified against your driver’s license signature or the signature on file.
-If you rely on the mail, allow ample time for your application or ballot to arrive at the Clerk’s office.
-You can also use one of the drop boxes at Town Hall available 24/7.
-Sample ballots for each election will be available at the Clerk’s Office or online at the Michigan Voter. Information Center (Michigan.gov/vote)
-You can track your absentee ballot application and ballot at the same website.
-For the State Primary, you may only vote one side (party) on the ballot or your partisan section will not count.
-Absentee ballots must be received at the Clerk’s Office by 8:00pm Election Day.
-DON’T FORGET TO SIGN AND DATE YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT ENVELOPE.

Meer residents keep their minds sharp with Vintage Trivial Pursuit, led by Suzanne Smith, a retired nurse who moved to Meer. She wants to be an active member of our residential community and came up with the challenge for residents to see who could remember the most answers. |

Spicy Thai Mango Avocado Salad
Ingredients
1/2 red onion, cut into half-moons
1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped
2-3 Tuscanini Calabrian Chili Peppers, thinly sliced
3 green onions, chopped
1 avocado, sliced
2 mangoes, peeled and diced
Dressing
Zest and juice of 2 fresh limes
2 tablespoons Honey
2 tablespoons Olive Oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Directions
1) Place all the chopped ingredients in a bowl, add the dressing, and mix.
2) Serve at room temperature or cold. Let sit for at least five minutes so the flavors can meld, and adjust seasonings before serving.
