When God Expects Us To Step Up…
Last week we stood at the foot of Mt. Sinai together with Jews all around the world to receive the Torah, or at least the Ten Commandments. There was fire and smoke, the sound of the shofar coming out from the mountain, and God’s voice reverberating off the facet of stone on the entire mountain. We felt a sense of awe and holiness in every bone and muscle as each of us heard the utterings from God.
And then, just like that, for the next chapter and half, God is almost not present at all. Rather we find that, while it is God’s voice still ringing out the laws through which we are to establish a just society, the laws are set up for us to enforce in our own community. We must police each other, we must enforce the systems, and we must punish those who break the laws.
In doing this God acknowledges that for people to grow they must be empowered and given a certain amount of responsibility for their own destiny as individuals and society. The laws are explicit as to how to set up such a society addressing murder, robbery, liability, health and healing, injury, the wealthy and the poor, and so many other areas… BUT when it comes to those who are overlooked, those who are potentially going to be stepped upon, those who societies traditionally abuse or completely ignore THE STRANGER, THE WIDOW, THE ORPHAN, GOD STEPS BACK into THE PICTURE.
On Shabbat, together we will glean a critical understanding of why this happens, and what the Torah is instructing we must do to create the just society we are tasked with creating.

"Morning Song"
Yoni and Nina Tokayer, known together as YONINA have been singing and creating wonderful videos for several years, but through the pandemic, they have brought music and joy into the lives of thousands through their almost daily recordings.
This is their first original hit that celebrates the new day, the blessings, the silliness, and the possibility for the goodness that each day brings.
Thank you also for the pain, for giving me a heart
To feel everything strongly, to be able to love, to be disappointed
And to get up again and try and dream another day.

Rare Snow falls in Jerusalem, blanketing the city
A severe weather system, dubbed “Elpis,” had dropped snow on the north of the county from early Wednesday morning, with the conditions spreading steadily south throughout the day.
Predictions say they could get as much as 6-8 inches which is a disaster for a city that is not prepared for snow.

Coming March 23, 2022
Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg writes books about the messy business of trying to be a person in the world, and how spirituality can inform and transform that work. Sometimes that’s about parenting, sometimes feminism, sex, God, justice, or joy. It’s all interconnected, isn’t it? She’s a highly-sought keynote speaker and lecturer who has been named by Newsweek and The Daily Beast as one of ten “rabbis to watch,” and one of the top 50 most influential women rabbis.

Due to the ease of transmission of the omicron variant, we ask that only those people who have received at least two COVID vaccinations and a booster attend in-person services. Masks are required while in the building and sanctuary. KN95 masks or better are suggested and we will have them on our greeting table. If you are not feeling well, please stay safely at home and enjoy our services virtually.
Additionally, you will notice that every other row is blocked off so that we do not sit directly in front of, behind, or next to anyone who does not reside in our household. Please be considerate that there are people who prefer keeping a safe distance.
We will still be streaming our services on Zoom and YouTube for those
who will be participating from home. No one will be left behind.
