KBI Virtual presents "Shabbat-in-a-Box YouTube Playlist, with your clergy and member volunteers".

Because of the COVID pandemic, when we can’t gather for our usual prayer services, KBI is proud to now be providing a weekly YouTube playlist containing everything you need for a complete Shabbat experience online, customized for the upcoming Shabbat.

It’s our hope that the weekly playlist will help you connect spiritually to our traditions by hearing our prayers chanted/sung in our favorite melodies.

Since there is no in-person minyan, services are led  k’yacheid  (ie., as if one were praying alone, without a  minyan ). That said, many watching will find it meaningful to hear or say the  kaddish , so KBI has adopted the "COVID tradition" to say the mourners’  kaddish , but leaving out the communal passage  y'hei sh'meih rabbah... .

Yasher Koach  to those volunteers who give of their time and talents each week to supplement the prayers with the weekly readings,  divrei Torah , etc. If you would like to be included in a given week’s playlist, please reach out to a member of the team.

Shabbat Shalom!
Cantor Jason Green, Rabbi Eytan Kenter, and Rabbi Deborah Zuker

Ha Makom Yenachem
Last week, we announced our  Small Groups Initiative , which is designed to give people opportunities for meaningful connection around areas of shared interest (especially during this socially distant time). We now have "hosts" for 10 such groups, but we still need to determine if there is sufficient interest in participation. If you are interested in participating in any of these groups (or have an idea for a new one) please   click here   a nd fill out the survey. Remember, you need not be a member of KBI or live in Ottawa to participate. If you have any questions about any of these groups or have other suggestions, you can always contact Rabbi Kenter at  rabbi@kehillatbethisrael.com . Hope to "see you" there.

There are many blessings that happen in all of our lives such as the birth of a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild; the engagement or marriage of a loved one; or a promotion at work or a volunteer award.  These events lend balance to times of sadness, such as the death or illness of a loved one. We at Kehillat Beth Israel are grateful for the opportunity to share these moments with you - to be a source of community in both times of celebration and times of sorrow.  Below you will find some of the events in our community from the last few weeks. Please continue to share with us your happy occasions so that we may share them here in the future.

And in the spirit of gratitude, we also take this opportunity to thank the members of our community for their charitable gifts to the synagogue. We could not do the important work that we do at Kehillat Beth Israel without your generous support. We are so thankful for your continued contributions that allow us to grow and thrive. Todah Rabbah!

KBI OFFICE

As our building remains closed for the time being, a rotation of staff is set in place to assure that mail is received and phone messages responded to. During both a morning and afternoon shift of 2-3 hours, someone will be present at the synagogue as we attempt to do our best to maintain the outstanding service you've come to expect from our congregation. It is still likely to take a little bit longer than usual to respond to requests and we ask for your patience as we do our best to pivot to this new reality. During this time of moving much of our operations to virtual platforms, the best way to get in touch with any member of the staff is to email them. A staff directory can be found here . As a reminder, while staff may be present in the building at times, we still ask that you not "drop by" as we are attempting to limit everyone's exposure.
