It’s All About Showing Up
As we prepare to celebrate the final Shabbat of 5782 we have the opportunity to set the scene for how we want to enter the new year. Last Shabbat, when we welcomed Rabbi Josh Warshawsky, was one of the most energetic and exciting Shabbats we have had at B’nai Moshe since I have been here. We sang, we danced, we learned, and we began preparing ourselves for the High Holidays. And many of you SHOWED UP and filled our sanctuary with voices singing out.
Throughout the High Holidays we will sing and pray: Avinu Malkeinu – Our Father Our King. While we know that throughout the Days of Awe God is in the role of King, deciding the fate of each person, we remind God over and over that God is also our father and just as a parent will have mercy on their children, so too we beseech God to have mercy on us.
But, in this week’s parashah – God lets us know what we need to do on our end. Because we are in a covenantal relationship with God it takes both of us contributing to the relationship. And what is it that God wants from us?
TO SHOW UP.
Many synagogues are concerned members won’t return to the sanctuaries where we can pray as a community, preferring to watch from the comfort of their homes. But the power of the experience is so much more when we all show up.
And so, I am inviting you to come home. Come in and JOIN US.
CELEBRATE WITH US. PRAY WITH US.
So that we can all enter the new year together.
