The Shabbat Effect
A New Class with Rabbi Tamar
Tuesdays at 11am
What if one day of rest could transform your entire life?
One of the most important biblical mandates, so significant that it numbers among the Ten Commandments, is the directive to observe a weekly day of rest. The Shabbat Effect illuminates how the practice of a day set aside for rest brings about a deep, lasting, and pervasive transformation of character, not just on that seventh day but every day. Drawing on venerable Jewish sources as well as the experiences of contemporary practitioners, this user-friendly and accessible guide explores the eight essential traits that reflect the true meaning of Shabbat.
This class is free, no registration required. Please get a copy of Alan Morinis's book The Shabbat Effect -- reading assignments will be given prior to each class. If you have trouble acquiring the book, please let Rabbi Tamar know.
Prior to the first class this week, please read the Introduction.

Violins and Hope: From the Holocaust to Symphony Hall
May 3 – June 29
Minnesota JCC Capp Center St. Paul
and Sabes Center Minneapolis
From the Holocaust to Symphony Hall is an extraordinary exhibition built around the internationally renowned project and its moving collection of restored string instruments once played by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust. Each violin carries a deeply personal story—bearing witness to one of history’s darkest chapters while honoring those who faced unimaginable adversity and the resilience of individuals who turned to music as a source of solace, survival, and defiance.
Through hauntingly beautiful photographs and compelling text, this exhibit brings these instruments and their histories into vivid presence, inviting visitors to experience the violins up close, learn about the musicians who once played them, and engage in broader conversations about cultural memory, the persistence of antisemitism, and why remembrance matters.
