Committee Spotlight

In this column, we will be featuring the committees of Har Zion Temple.

I have proudly accepted to once again serve as the Catering Committee Chair for Har Zion Temple. The committee members are Joy Landau, Sheila Schafer, Rachel Steerman, Susan Kochman, and Morria Pedowitz. I am happy to announce that this year we have added Classical Caterers from New Brunswick to our panel of caterers, which includes Leslie Rosen Catering and Deluxe Catering.

Moving forward, we now have a menu to present to our families who would like to remain at HZ after services to celebrate their Simcha by sponsoring a Shabbat Kiddush. We will continue to have a regular Kiddush, but now we can offer, for a cost, an Extended Kiddush and an Enhanced Kiddush to celebrate your Smachot. With the help of Emily Berton and Harry Landsburg, a document was created which includes the options for Kiddush and information regarding the families’ responsibilities.

We continue to encourage donations to the Shabbat Fund to help lower the costs of our standard Kiddushes. Please contact Emily Berton, eberton@harziontemple.org, for further information.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our chef Joy Landau, and her devoted helper Maxine Rosen, and the volunteers who also help prepare food for our Har Zion Community.

12 PM – Jewish Books in Christian Bibles with Dr. Ely Levine

In-person and Zoom

Ancient Jewish literature was quite varied. What Jews decided to preserve was just a small portion; Christians preserved many, many Jewish texts. Come read through some of these Jewish texts, including the Gospels, Jubilees, and Maccabees. See what other ideas Jews had that may not have been preserved in mainstream Judaism, other ideas that seemed to find a roundabout way into normative Judaism, and still other Jewish ideas that ended up being used against Jews.
