Dear Wolverine Hillel Family,

I am so honored to be back at the University of Michigan Hillel to serve as the Interim CEO. I’ve been on the job for 3 days and it didn’t take long for me to feel the excitement and positive energy that permeates our Hillel. The staff is tremendous. We have a diverse and creative team that is so incredibly dedicated to the Jewish students at U-M.

This past week marked 30 days since Israel was attacked. I want you to know that we have not missed a beat providing students with a safe space to express their feelings and to come together as a community. One of the first things I did as Interim CEO was to continue the clear communication that this Hillel maintains with the university administration. We are fortunate to have real partners who care about the experience of Jewish students.

As we prepare for Shabbat I know that many of us are still reeling from the attack on Israel and the ongoing war. In the Torah reading this week, our matriarch Sarah has died and Abraham mourns. As he grieves, the Torah says Abraham gets up and he takes action. He moves the vision forward, establishing a great people in their land to be a blessing to the world. We can learn from Abraham and take action. In addition to celebrating Shabbat, on Sunday our Students for Holocaust Awareness, Remembrance, and Education (SHARE) group is hosting Judaic Studies faculty Jeff Veidlinger, an expert on antisemitism and Holocaust education, to engage in the topic of “the Language of Never Again”. And, I’m looking forward to marching in Washington on Tuesday with nearly 100 Michigan students.

All of our upcoming events can be found here.

Feel free to call or email anytime; I really do want to hear from you.

Shabbat Shalom, Am Yisrael Chai, and Go Blue!
