 Math 6

In Mrs. Pyle's 6th grade math class, the students have been working with geometry, learning how to find the perimeter and area of various 2-D figures, as well as the surface area and volume of 3-D figures, such as prisms and cylinders. There are many formulas to remember, and the trick is knowing how and when to use them.

 Math 8

In algebra, Mrs. Pyles' 8th graders have been using several methods to solve  quadratic equations. The class has begun working with radical

expressions and will be learning how to simplify the expressions and perform operations  with them. Regents review has officially begun as we work toward a successful completion of this high school math course.

Pennies for Patients

Pennies for Patients is a service and philanthropy program that gives students a unique experience making a difference through teamwork-working together to aid thousands of children and adults in the fight against blood cancers like leukemia.  Students collect spare change over a 3 week period from April 12-May 3, 2013.  Change is collected from friends and family and by looking under couch cushions and in car consoles.  This year, we are excited to have Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy as one of the schools in Upstate NY teaching teamwork

and making change, one coin at a time!

Kosher; Private Regulation in the age

of Industrial Food

In overcoming many of the problems of insufficient resources and weak

enforcement that hamper the government, private kosher certification holds important lessons for improving food regulation.

The growing popularity of kosher food is a response to a more general

cultural anxiety about industrialization of the food supply.

Like the organic and locavore movements, a growing number of consumers

see rabbinic supervision as a way to personalize today's complex,

 globalized system of food production.
