Today's Immigration News
Analysis: Drop in Public Support of Immigration Enforcement Worries President Trump's Team | Axios
President Donald Trump's team recently reviewed private GOP polling that showed falling support for his immigration policies, especially among some groups that supported his 2024 victory. This bolstered internal concerns about his administration's confrontational enforcement tactics. Some advisors are considering "recalibrating" the approach. A top advisor said the president still supports his immigration policies. "What he doesn't want is what people are seeing. He doesn't like the way it looks. It looks bad, so he's expressed some discomfort at that."
Immigration Agents Filmed Dragging Woman From Her Car | Associated Press
A U.S. citizen on her way to a medical appointment in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was dragged out of her car and detained by immigration officers, she said in a statement last Thursday, after videos of her being dragged from her car and arrested drew millions of views on social media. "I'm disabled, trying to go to the doctor up there, that's why I didn't move," Aliya Rahman is heard telling officers in a video. Rahman said she was brought to a detention center, denied medical care, and lost consciousness. She said she was taken to a hospital after losing consciousness. The Department of Homeland Security said she was an agitator obstructing agents. In a video, an agent smashes her passenger side window while others cut her seat belt and drag her out the driver's side door.
ICE Conducting Construction Raids Without Warrants, Says Builders Group | Border Report
The head of the South Texas Builders Association said immigrant agents are raiding border construction sites without warrants. Mario Guerrero, association executive director, said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are entering job sites and illegally rounding up workers. He said this is causing bankruptcies and forcing many construction-related businesses to shut down or suffer significant financial losses. ICE says it does not need judicial warrants to make arrests. Guerrero spoke about these realities during a press call hosted by the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC). The White House and Congress should expand work permits for essential workers because this helps create jobs for U.S. workers, said Rebecca Shi, CEO of the ABIC. “One immigrant worker creates 2.1 jobs for native born Americans … When you provide work permits for immigrants, you create jobs, and you reduce prices for everyday Americans,” stated Shi.
