Rock the Week will be taking a break during July. If there is important news to share or we need to respond to something happening in the news, we will be here for you. Keep a lookout!

There will not be any worship services from June 29th through

July 31st. This has been a 50 year-long tradition at Shadow Rock held in July, the seventh month, as a symbolic reference to the seventh day of rest.

The church offices will also be closed and mail delivery has been placed on hold. To reach someone on call, please call the church office at

602-993-0050 and listen to the outgoing message. We hope you take this month to visit other communities of faith and conscience.

We look forward to seeing each other again for celebratory worship on Sunday, August 2nd at 10:15 AM.

Many of us feel helpless to impact the current political climate. I keep hearing the importance of communicating with our senators and representatives. The website "5 Calls" is exceptionally easy to facilitate this type of communication. One can pick the issue(s) that have personal importance, and names, numbers, and scripts are provided. SUPER easy. Thanks!! 

Voting Rights Under Attack

Alert from Scottsdale Congregational UCC:

The U.S. Postal Service has announced a proposal to refuse delivery of mail-in ballots for federal elections in states like Arizona that haven't provided the federal government with a list of eligible voters. Such lists which would be screened for compliance by postal employees.

The rationale, according to the postmaster, is to prevent fraud, and ensure that “the right ballots are going to the right people.”

The problem: This inserts the federal government into our elections. It is the states that are Constitutionally charged with handling elections and voter eligibility. In Arizona, there are multiple fraud-prevention & detection tools and the incidence of fraud is miniscule. This action will not only be incredibly impractical for elections officials, leading to chaos (literally) but there is a fear that such data will be shared inappropriately with the Department of Justice and used to try to disenfranchise certain voters or take other actions.

While there will likely be court challenges, we want to flood the U.S. Postal Service with letters opposing this decision.

We face a July 2, 2026 deadline to submit comments.

Election Protection: Poll Chaplains & Peacekeepers Needed

Arizona Faith Network is recruiting volunteers to serve as Poll Chaplains and Peacekeepers for both the primary and general election as part of our nonpartisan Election Protection program. These faith-rooted volunteers help create safe, welcoming, and peaceful voting environments where every eligible voter can participate with dignity and respect.

No prior experience is required. Training and support are provided through partnerships with Election Protection Arizona and Faiths United to Save Democracy. People of all faith traditions and people of goodwill are welcome. Training sessions via Zoom will be offered on multiple dates/times from June through October.See the registration form linked below for additional details.
