Important Beer Church Information

Beer Church is at 5:00 PM on September 6th.

There is a change in venue for this month only. You will meet at Barrio Brewing Company at Deer Valley Airport, 702 W. Deer Valley Road.

Coffee Chat!

Our next Coffee Chat is September 13th, following worship. This is a wonderful time for sharing fellowship and fun stories.

A reminder that Shadow Rock is a nut-free facility.

The Moon Rock Readers Book Club is sponsoring a Dolly Legacy for Literacy Book Drive for September!

Let's build on Dolly Parton's literacy work for kids Kindergarten age to 6th grade and collect books for local elementary schools. Our neighbors, Moon Mountain Elementary and Manzanita Elementary (home of our librarian, Abeth Spenser), would be happy to have new or gently used books to give to kids. You can buy books, look to family and friends who might have some, or go to your local thrift store.

Please bring them to the grocery cart in the Narthex on any Sunday in September. Requests are for books labeled for early readers, books with lots of pictures, graphic novels, or scary themed ones.

Celebrating an Installation Service

Installation Service for Rev. Andy Schwiebert | September 20

The SCNC is joyfully celebrating the installation of the Rev. Andy Schwiebert as Pastor of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. Rev. Schwiebert has served as Immanuel’s full time Transitional Pastor since 2017, and recent approval by Immanuel’s leadership and the Presbytery of the Pacific has paved the way for his installation.

The service will take place Sunday, September 20, at 3:00 p.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 663 S. Berendo Street in Los Angeles. Immanuel is a bilingual English- and Spanish-speaking congregation located in Koreatown. Rev. Schwiebert is also a member of First Congregational Church of Pasadena, UCC, and serves in a four-way covenant through the Formula of Agreement between the PC(USA) and the UCC.

All are warmly invited to celebrate in person and/or in prayer with Rev. Schwiebert, Immanuel Presbyterian Church, and the wider faith community.

Community Sing Opportunity

Everyone is invited to the most enjoyable musical experience you've had in ages, maybe ever. Come on Saturday, October 10th, to sing with Melanie DeMore, gifted choral leader. You don't have to read music or have a fabulous voice. You just need to love to sing.

Click here to register. Melanie will also be featured at the 10:15 AM service October 11th.

Community Outreach Opportunity

My name is Carlos Da Silva. Beyond my role as the Founder/Executive Director of Powered By Love Inc (a registered 501(c)(3) serving Maricopa County). I serve as the Church Moderator at First Church (UCC) here in Phoenix.

I am reaching out to invite your congregation to join us in bringing radical dignity to our unhoused neighbors through The 831 Experience (November 13-14, 2026).

What is The 831 Experience?

It is a 48-hour restorative journey serving 75 unhoused neighbors in downtown Phoenix. Guests are paired 1:1 with volunteer Navigators as they move through 8 Touchpoints of Care—including mobile hot showers, primary medical care, trauma-informed respite, and housing navigation.

3 Ways Your Congregation Can Partner:

  1. Mobilize 1:1 Navigators: Invite your members to serve on-ground, walking alongside our unhoused guests during the event.
  2. Host a Ministry Drive: Mobilize your church to collect high-need items like new clothing, hygiene essentials, and restoration supplies.
  3. Sponsor Care Stations: Financially sponsor 1 of our 8 Touchpoints of Care as a mission or outreach project.

Worker Power Statewide Committee Meeting

from August 29th

UNITE HERE Local 11 and Worker Power hosted their first Statewide Committee Meeting, bringing together leaders from across Central and Southern Arizona. They gathered to build community, reaffirm their commitment to fighting for what they and their families deserve, and make plans for the midterm election. These plans include being a First Day Voter and turning out 10 people to vote. There were approximately 200 committee members.
