Happy Labor Day!

We're so excited to welcome students this week! We've been working hard to get our school ready for everyone to be back. It has been so great to see people again and to meet some new students and families at our Ready, Set, Go Conferences. There is definitely a buzz of excitement in the air! This is the format we'll use to communicate important and helpful information each week. This week's edition is focusing on the first week of school. Take a look below!

Drop off and Pick up

Our drop off and pick up procedures can seem a little complex at first, but they're not so tough. We just want to make sure that kids get to school, and home, safely and efficiently.

You can see the complete procedures HERE. Please share with anyone who may be picking your child up from school.

We want to know how your child is getting home, so we can have them in the right spot. You filled out a transportation form, and teachers have been confirming at Ready, Set, Go Conferences. If there is ever a change in the routine (including the first day), please let the office and your child's teacher know.

Bus schedule - if your child is riding the bus, you can check their stop location and times HERE. If you checked it earlier, it is worth checking again, as route times change as the bus list gets refined. To figure out the Wednesday drop off time, just subtract and hour and 15 minutes. Be patient in the first days of school as times may vary while students, families and drivers get used to the route.

And on the first day, you are welcome to walk your child onto the big playground (5K-2nd grade) and walk them to their line. After the first day, we ask that no other adults (or siblings or pets) come onto the playground, so we can account for everyone on the playground as a staff member or student. You can say your goodbyes at the gates. Please share this information with anyone that may be dropping your child off.

That first day!

I have 3 kids of my own, and I've experienced many first days. I remember my wife nudging my son on the bus on the first day of kindergarten as he protested to stay home and then calling me in tears. (Update: he had a great day!) I remember my kids rolling their eyes at us wanting to get a first day picture, because the first day is "no big deal." And I remember dropping my oldest son off at college for the first time (last week Monday!) with excitement in his eyes and tears in ours. The first day of school can be an amazing day, and it can be a tricky one too.

  • Clinging to you, in tears, afraid to go into school? - Normal!
  • Running away from you to see friends, not caring that you're nervous? - Normal!
  • Being excited to go to school when you leave the house, but nervous to separate from you when you get there? - Normal!
  • Saying the first day was great, but then being nervous to go the next day? - Normal!
  • Coming home with a full lunch box because they didn't eat during lunch time? - Normal!
  • Chatting endlessly about all they did the first day? - Normal!
  • Answering "nothing," when you ask what they did at school? - Normal!

No matter how your child's first day starts, know that we are here to make sure that they are safe, cared for, and have a successful day and year. Once they get into school, and into their classroom, things settle, kids get comfortable, and the learning and fun begin.

Below are some helpful tips if you're struggling or just trying to set your child up for success.
