In 1866 UPMC Shadyside hospital (formerly called Homeopathic Hospital of Pittsburgh) was birthed, but not as the medical hospital you think it to be, but rather as a homeopathic and surgical hospital!
In the year of 1938, the Homeopathic Hospital of Pittsburgh changed its name to Shadyside Hospital to disintegrate its connection to once being a homeopathic hospital. But if you are ever at this hospital today, take a close look at the walls and notice the pictures from its original hospital showing natural homeopathic medicines. Also if you google "Shadyside Hospital Homeopathic Hospital", you will see that they actually admit this.
So what happened? Why did the Homeopathic Hospital die? Out of all the countries, the US was actually the one who embraced homeopathy the most in the 1800s to the early 1900s. In the US alone by 1900 there were 22 homeopathic medical schools & over 100 homeopathic hospitals & 1,000 homeopathic pharmacies. One of the biggest reasons for the decline of homeopathy was the publishing of "The Journal of the American Medical Association" in 1901. This book criticized and picked out all the pros and cons of medical (regular) colleges and homeopathic colleges in the US. Many of the poorer colleges (the homeopathic colleges) took a hit from this book and lost many students.
The first medical association was the American Institute of Homeopathy, not the American Medical Association.
Once the American Medical Association was created, it was funded primarily from paid advertisements from pharmaceutical companies. Simply put, allopathic medicine created better income incentives offering free samples and endorsement fees to the most prominent doctors. Even though the medical system in the US does not promote or even condone homeopathic medicine today, other industrialized nations readily use and accept it as a
primary source of treatment.
I have seen first hand stories of how well pets will respond to homeopathy, which takes the 'mental placebo' out of the picture.
Keep in mind that the US is 2% of the world’s population, but we use 50% of the world’s pharmaceutical (mostly chemical) drugs. Other countries are still utilizing homeopathy much of the time, just like the US used to do. It is widely known that the right homeopathic can relieve a symptom faster than a medication without the side effects and physical hazards that medications produce.
Perhaps that is why the British Royal Family employs a full time homeopathic physician. Today, India still has 100 homeopathic medical schools and about 2,500 homeopathic doctors.
I don't know how you feel about this, but it is saddening to know that the US used to be one of the top countries supporting homeopathy, but now we are near the bottom. But, times are changing! It is awesome to see more and more return to the alternative healthy options. Let's be a part of that change and make history happen!
