Shaker Theatre Arts Department Presents Fools

The Shaker Theatre Arts Department is excited to announce our Fall production: Fools by Neil Simon.

The story follows a young school teacher as he attempts to teach the residents of a small European village that has been cursed with stupidity before he becomes the next permanent resident. Under the direction of Chuck Tisdale, over 40 students and staff members have worked to bring this year's Fall play to the stage.

Performances are November 17-19 at 7 p.m. in the Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium. Tickets available at the door or online at shakertheatre.ludus.com.

Fernway Students Rock the Vote!

Students at Fernway Elementary School held an important election of their own this week! The election began with a voter registration event, followed by a primary election to narrow the options. Students then held a General Election yesterday, where they voted for their choice in naming their new school mascot. They checked in, completed their ballot, submitted it, received their sticker and then awaited the results. Students chose between the names Ash and Ember for their mascot, the Fernway Phoenix. In a vote of 170 to 107, the new name is Ash!

This election activity included many lessons for our students on civic and community engagement along the way! Well done, Fernway!

Special thanks to Jean Reinhold, Lorene Rider, Denise Harr and the many PTO volunteers for making this civics lesson come to life for our students!

From the Shakerite to the Spotlight!

The Shaker Schools Foundation is excited to offer you the opportunity to hear notable Shaker alumni as part of our Shaker Speaks Series: Featuring Conversations with Unique Shaker Voices.

Please join us for "A Night with Peter Lawson Jones" generously hosted in a private Shaker Heights home on Wednesday, November 30th at 7pm.

On Christmas Day, A Man Called Otto, starring Tom Hanks will be released…and playing Mr. Hanks’s long-estranged best friend in the film will be none other than Shaker’s own, Peter Lawson Jones. In addition to his work as a professional actor, Peter is an attorney, consultant, dramatist, acting instructor, and former elected official, whose play, The Bloodless Jungle, was named by Land of Cleve, a local arts and cultural blog, one of the best productions in the region in 2017.

Tickets are $50 per person and must be purchased online in advance. Only a limited number of tickets will be sold. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit our website!
