SHAKESPEARE OC IS MOVING TO SANTA ANA COLLEGE
After being forced to cancel its 2018 season when it lost access to its longtime home, the Festival Amphitheatre, and the City of Garden Grove withdrew its funding, Shakespeare Orange County (SOC) has announced that it has concluded an agreement with Santa Ana College that will provide it with not just an amphitheatre (a brand new 300 seat facility), but two additional performance spaces, scene shop, costume shop, rehearsal space and parking, as well as free transferable, repeatable college tuition for its High School and College company. SOC also announced plans for what will be its 40th season in summer 2019: two Shakespeare plays - Much Ado About Nothing and Antony and Cleopatra, Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, and Luis Valdez's Zoot Suit. HOBIE ALTER MEMORIAL STATUE, A TRIBUTE TO THE GLOBAL SURF & SAIL ICON, UNVEILED IN DANA POINT
[From the Orange County Register:] "Hobie Riding the Wave of Success," a bronze statue memorial to Hobie Alter, the famed boat designer, was unveiled earlier this month at Dana Point's Watermen's Plaza, an area near Doheny State Beach that will pay tribute to local surf icons. The monument is part of a 4-year-long collaboration by South Cove developer Zephyr, the city of Dana Point, the Hobie Memorial Foundation, and the Hobie Cat company to bring the inventor's legacy to life. Hobie Alter died in 2014 at age 80.
