October 19 is the deadline to register to vote in the upcoming November 3 General Election. Register to vote online at https://registertovote.ca.gov.
All California voters will be sent a vote-by-mail ballot with prepaid postage for the General Election. A ballot box will be available at the Monterey Public Library for dropping off Monterey County ballots.

Wednesday, 9/30: Virtual Monterey Candidates Forum

The Monterey Vista Neighborhood Association and Old Town Neighborhood Association invite you to a Monterey City Government Virtual Candidates Forum.
All city of Monterey residents can register to attend and submit their questions for the candidates beforehand.
Designated members of MVNA and OTNA will be hosting the Zoom webinar.
The forum is non-partisan and for voter educational purposes.

This year is the 75th anniversary of the publication of Steinbeck’s masterpiece, Cannery Row. This little novel captures life in 1930s Monterey as well as the ecological vision of Steinbeck and his friend Edward F. Ricketts.

Library Wish List - Help Build the Collection
Due to devastating COVID related budget cuts, the budget for new materials was eliminated. You can help by gifting books from the wish list to the Monterey Public Library. We anticipate demand for the selected titles. Include your library card number on the gift receipt if you would like the book placed on hold before it circulates. You are welcome to purchase from another vendor or donate new releases not on the list, however a librarian will review all books based on the Library's Collection Development Policy. Questions? Sidewalk Service is Open
Eager to have library materials back in your hands? You can now place holds on library materials online, or by calling staff. Once you receive a notice that your hold is ready for pick up, visit us at the front entrance of the Library during Sidewalk Service hours. Learn more by clicking here. Sidewalk Service hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00 am - 6:00 pm.

When you find a book you're interested in reading, look at the call number, click the link 'Browse nearby' and then scroll through the digital book shelf.

Not sure what to read next? Try Novelist Plus for inspiration. Enter a favorite book or author for read-alike suggestions, or browse by subject and genre. Try Novelist K-8 for children's books. When will Monterey Public Library and the Bookmobile Reopen? We will reopen in phases depending upon health orders and funding. Our current phase includes phone and email service Monday - Friday, 10 am – 6 pm and Sidewalk Service, Tuesday - Saturday 11 am – 6 pm. Visit the articles and databases page on our website to access to ebooks and databases 24 hours per day. Bookmobile service continues to be suspended.
Due Dates: Items borrowed from Monterey Public Library before closure were due July 31, 2020. Items borrowed from Pacific Grove Public Library before closure are due October 21, 2020. Items borrowed through Sidewalk service are due three weeks from the date you borrowed them.
Returns: You may hold on to materials until they are due or return them now. Our lobby book return at the front entrance is open 24 hours per day for Monterey Public Library and Pacific Grove Public Library returns. Please securely attach a note with all ZIP Book returns.
Holds: If you place a hold on an item, we will send you a notice when it is ready to be picked up. Please wait to visit the Library until you receive notification that your holds are ready.
Library Cards: If you do not have a card, you can apply online and we will mail you a card. If you need a replacement card, make sure to check the "replacement" option on the online application. Replacement library cards have new numbers. If you have a card and forgot your PIN, you can reset it by visiting My Account.
