#HousingChoice

Dear Community Member,

Thank you to everyone who lent their voice to the Building Opportunity for Housing project by completing the housing survey.

The survey closed on March 31, and we received 3,417 valid responses! Planning staff is busy analyzing the results. You can expect a sneak preview at the April 12 Plan Commission workshop, with a full survey report expected at the end of the month. Stay tuned!

In the Know ... Residential Parking Regulations 101

Parking is one of the most frequent topics brought up by the public, with questions of what parking is required and where it can be located.

Below are some of the current regulations for residential parking:

For a residential dwelling unit, 1 off-street parking space is required per unit PLUS 1 additional parking space for each bedroom over 3 bedrooms. Wow, that’s a lot of numbers. What does that mean?

A two-bedroom dwelling requires 1 parking space. A four-bedroom dwelling requires 2 parking spaces.

The Hopstotch family have five bunny children, and these luckily little cottontails each get their own room, so the six-bedroom house requires 4 off-street parking spaces.

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) have different parking requirements. Studio and one-bedroom ADUs require no additional off-street parking. One additional off-street parking space is required for a two-bedroom ADU, plus 1 addition parking space per bedroom after two bedrooms. This off-street ADU parking is in addition to the minimum required for the primary residential dwelling unit on the lot.

If you have specific questions about parking on your lot, call Current Planning at (509) 625-6188.
