Shaping the Future Through Collaboration and Innovation

A Message from Your CEO

Dear COA Members,

It is with immense pride and gratitude that I reflect on the achievements of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association (COA) in 2024. As we prepare to celebrate the COA's 80th anniversary in 2025, this milestone reminds us of the incredible legacy of collaboration, innovation, and leadership that has defined our Association over the past eight decades.

Last year, we prioritized engaging early-career surgeons, residents, and students—the future of orthopaedics. The success of programs like the Emerging Leaders Program and the Diversity in Leadership Scholarship highlights our commitment to fostering leadership and inclusion. Through initiatives like the Mentor for a Day Program and our collaboration with the Canadian Orthopaedic Surgery Student Network (COSSNET), we’ve strengthened our pipeline of talent, ensuring the next generation is equipped to lead and innovate.

Advocacy remained at the heart of our efforts in 2024. Through Advo Ortho, we amplified our voice on critical issues, engaging with policymakers and aligning with partner organizations to address challenges facing orthopaedic professionals and their patients. The success of Canadian Orthopaedic Care Day, with increased participation and social impact, exemplifies the collective strength of our community in bringing musculoskeletal health to the forefront.

Our Annual Meeting in Halifax was a resounding success, bringing together national and international experts to share knowledge and explore innovative approaches. We are grateful to all who contributed to this dynamic gathering, especially our Nova Scotia colleagues.

Additionally, the Ortho Insider Podcast has become a cornerstone of knowledge sharing, featuring impactful discussions on international perspectives, wellness, research, and global surgery. This platform continues to connect our members and amplify Canadian expertise on a global stage.

As we look ahead, I am excited to announce that 2025 will mark the implementation of a new strategic plan designed to address evolving member needs. We remain steadfast in our dedication to providing exceptional value through advocacy, education, professional development, and networking opportunities while maintaining careful financial stewardship amid rising costs.

Let us continue to build on our shared achievements and prepare for a year of celebration, reflection, and progress as we approach the COA’s 80th anniversary.

Warm regards,

Cynthia Vezina
