Empowering Tomorrow's Professionals:
Tuskegee History Center's Impactful Educational Initiatives
University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Students
Spend a Day in Tuskegee
The Tuskegee History Center continues to play a vital role in educating future professionals. Recently, students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine were surrounded by museum exhibits on the Tuskegee Syphilis Study during their visit to the Center. They listened to speakers, including Benjamin Rackley, Dr. Deanah Stafford, State Senator Billy Beasley, and Dr. Stephen Sodeke, who all provided valuable insights.

These students, enrolled in UAB Medicine’s Pediatric Health Equity Scholars Program, spend part of their studies in various regions of the state, engaging with community leaders to understand the impact of social and environmental factors on children's health. This initiative aims to enhance physicians' ability to address healthcare for all children.

This Tuskegee History Center daylong experiential, immersive learning project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services
Connecting with Legacy: Faulkner Law Students' Visit
In a distinctive visit, students from Faulkner University Jones Law School delved into the historical tapestry of the Tuskegee History Center. Specifically, the visit included executive board members of the Ernestine S. Sapp Chapter of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) and Attorney Ernestine Sapp, the chapter's namesake.

Auburn Students Surprise Encounter with Living History
During the final scheduled group visit of the year, Auburn University students immersed themselves in Tuskegee's rich multicultural history at the Center on Saturday, November 11. Students were taken by surprise when special guest Anthony T. Lee, a Tuskegee resident and historical figure, made an impromptu visit, forging a connection to Auburn University’s history.

Standing as a dynamic hub for experiential learning, the Tuskegee History Center facilitates invaluable encounters for students from diverse disciplines. Through insightful engagements, impactful speakers, and immersive programs, the Center plays a pivotal role in shaping the perspectives of future professionals. As we reflect on recent visits from medical, law, and undergraduate students, it is evident that the Tuskegee History Center continues to be a beacon of knowledge, fostering understanding, and contributing to the holistic education of the next generation.
President's Note: November 2023
"As I approach my 93rd birthday on December 14, 2023, I reflect on the 69 years I’ve dedicated to practicing civil and human rights law in Alabama. Admitted to the Supreme Court of Alabama on September 7, 1954, my journey has been marked by unwavering commitment to justice. Throughout this time, I’ve championed numerous battles, safeguarding the rights of American citizens—encompassing the right to vote, use public transportation, obtain appropriate medical care, equal farm subsidies, public education, and more."
