Share Thoughts and Perspectives with CLA Delegates
Elected delegates from each Component Local Association (CLA) will convene at the House of Delegates (HOD) on Sunday June 9, 2019 at the CHIA Convention & Exhibit in Indian Wells. The HOD provides the opportunity for elected delegates to express the desires of its members and provide direction and support of the CHIA association and HIM profession.

In addition to routine association business, the 2019 delegates will provide input into CHIA’s 2020-2022 strategic initiatives.

Delegates should obtain input on the HOD topics from their CLA leadership and general membership. It is important that feedback be received from CHIA members. All information received during the HOD deliberations will be taken into consideration.

All CHIA members have the opportunity to express their opinions and suggestions. If you have an idea or perspective, contact your CLA President and share your thoughts.

CHIA Proud Past President’s Share Their Convention Experience

"Attending convention gives attendees a great opportunity to be energized and inspired by the keynote speakers and gain insight and knowledge from the more detailed track sessions. The social events present networking opportunities that are essential as you build your circle of friends who will support you through thick and thin, and mentor or advise when needed. These friends can be the sounding board that are the lifesavers when things get rough and will help you celebrate triumphs. I always cherished this annual event. "

Blockchain App Lets Patients Choose Health Data They Want to Sell to Physicians
Mackenzie Garrity; Mar 25, 2019

Startup CoverUS has developed a blockchain-supported platform that allows patients to sell their medical information to providers, according to Forbes. The business will use blockchain technology to time-stamp the data sale and will require approval from the patient and provider for the transaction to be completed.

CoverUS' said its blockchain technology aims to put control in the hands of patient. Patients download their information from their EHR into the platform and add more health information as they see fit. Providers and physicians can then buy it. Read More.
Groups Propose New Social Determinant ICD-10 Codes
Mary Butler; Apr 10, 2019

The American Medical Association (AMA) and United Healthcare have proposed more than 20 new ICD-10 codes for social determinants of healthcare that identify social diagnoses or barriers to healthcare, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The proposed expanded codes “would capture these social diagnoses and barrier situations to assist providers and consumers in obtaining routine care, medications, and preventive services that are not captured today, thereby benefiting the industry as a whole in the management of patient care,” states the United Healthcare and AMA proposal in a document made available by the CDC. Study Links Enhanced EHRs to Reduced Cognitive Workload
Patrick Campbell; Apr 5, 2019

A recent study into the usability of Electronic Health Records (EHR) has found that basic enhancements to the EHR system could be associated with better physician cognitive workload and performance.

Investigators found that physicians who used a system with enhanced longitudinal tracking had appropriately managed significantly more abnormal test results compared with physicians using baseline EHRs.

Investigators from the University of North Carolina sent out invitations to all residents and fellows enrolled in the school of medicine at a large academic institution, stating the need for experience with using the Epic EHR software in reviewing test results to undergo the study’s simulated situations. Investigators offered a $100 gift card as an incentive for participation. A total of 40 individuals were recruited to participate, but 2 of them were excluded due to numerous cancellations. Between April 1, 2016 and Dec. 23, 2016, those 38 participants were enrolled and blindly allocated to a simulated EHR environment. Of those 38, 20 were assigned to use a baseline EHR and 18 were assigned to enhanced EHRs, which included changes intended to enhance longitudinal tracking of abnormal test results in the system.
