We are four weeks into this new educational environment and we want to receive your feedback about the school experience through our new ThoughtExchange! Based on the thoughts that you share, we will be able to take a deeper dive into this conversation to gain additional insight regarding what's working well and areas that we need to improve upon. Here is the link to the exchange.

This exchange will be open until Monday, September 21, 2020 so please take some time to sharing your perspectives with us and rate other thoughts as well!

USDA Extends Waivers That All Students Can Receive Free Breakfast/Lunch
On August 31, 2020 the USDA announced that the waivers that allow schools to serve ALL children meals for free, regardless of their income, will be continued through December 31, 2020. This new announcement is designed to ensure that families are supported with nutritious meals amid the pandemic.
What this new announcement means for the Wilson School District is that, effective immediately, ALL of our students (regardless of income), are able to receive free breakfast and lunch on any day that school is in session.

Here are some specific details regarding how this impacts your child(ren):
  • All students can receive a full breakfast AND full lunch for free regardless of income or grade level.
  • Only one full meal at both breakfast and lunch will be offered for free. If students choose to purchase a la carte items or additional meals (meaning double lunch!), those items will be charged to their food service account.
  • Student meals will still be recorded through our POS system so that we can check for allergies and other important notations in their food services account.
  • Students will access breakfast and lunch in the same manner they have since the start of the school year.
  • Families that are using our weekly pick up site at Cornwall Terrace Elementary School can continue to pick up 5 days of breakfast and lunch on Wednesday mornings from 7:00-7:45 am. We request that families sign up using this form to receive these free meals so we can plan accordingly.
  • We have begun to offer hot foods during lunch at the secondary level and will be introducing hot foods at the elementary schools beginning the week of September 21. We are continuing to expand our menu offering and you can check out what we are serving by visiting our Food Service Department website.
  • We encourage families to continue filling out applications for free and reduced lunch as these new waivers expire December 31, 2020.

We encourage families to take advantage of this benefit, provided by the USDA, for ALL students to receive free meals through December, 2020. Our Food Service Team is excited to serve your children healthy and tasty meals this school year.
Grandview Gallery to Host Online Art Exhibit
The Grandview Gallery is excited to premiere the online exhibition “quARanTine: Wilson SD Faculty & Staff”!

To say the least, it's been a rough 2020 and Grandview Gallery wants to embrace it. We asked the talented current and former employees of Wilson School District to share their creations made during quarantine and to speak about their creations.

Beginning September 25, you can visit www.grandviewgallery.net to see the online exhibit. The exhibit dates are 9/25/20- 1/8/21.
JROTC Honors Memory of 9/11
On Friday morning, September 11, 2020 our JROTC cadets began their day filling the high school campus with over 500 flags. This gesture was meant as a reminder and a way to pay respect to all those who lost their lives during one of America's most tragic days.

For the past decade, JROTC cadets at Wilson have spent the morning of Sept. 11 each year taking part in the ritual.

"It's just a way for us to give our patronage and honor to the fallen from September 11th," said Jim Dolan, the JROTC instructor. Thank you for this beautiful memorial.

We know that tonight’s football game at Gurski Stadium is always highlight for our community. Please understand that the stadium is closed to spectators, with the exception of a limited number of vouchers that were given to players and participants. Anyone who is present inside the stadium will be required to wear masks and observe 6 feet of social distance at all times.

Individuals are not permitted to stand at the fence or congregate near the stadium during the game because we need to do all we can to try to ensure a safe environment for our community. You can view the game via live stream at this link.

We are asking you to partner with us this season. We know this is not what we are used to as a community, but we are happy our students have the opportunity to participate in their fall events. Thank you for your support!
