Dancing with Nature
April 2019 Issue 4 Vol 9
News, Life, and the Art Culture in the Smoky Mountains
It’s an Easter tradition …. we, our little three-generation herd, camp, tent camp, with the luxury of an air mattress, evolving from childhood memories of Easter sunrise breakfasts in the woods. This year was no exception.

As younger parents, John and I took our children camping and now they embrace the experience with their families.

Despite its not so glamorous times with leaking tents, mosquitoes, frigid temps and relentless rain, we still do it because rainbows, cousin time, camp food and trail time make it worth the effort. “No matter how wet and cold you are, you’re always warm and dry on the inside.” Woodsman’s Adage
On the heels of our Easter, woodland experience came Earth Day. With my writing, my thoughts are that as stewards of the earth it is not only our responsibility to preserve this amazing Earth but to share it with children, our grandchildren, as they will inherit the bad with the good.
“The care of the rivers is not a question of rivers, but of the human heart.” Tanaka Shozo
May is traditionally “Mother’s month”. Mama, Aunt, Neighbor, Caretaker, Mother Earth to be respected and celebrated. My mother was MANY things but one thing she gave to me was love for nature ….. the woods, ferns, mosses, mountains, the earthiness of it all. She was my Mother Earth. She was my daughter’s Fairy Garden tender before the rest of the world found out, but now that enchantment is sought in mossy knolls by my granddaughters.
May is going to bring a couple of great events in the gallery. Make sure you check those out below. And while you are downtown, you may see some new faces on the block. Logan’s Home Décor and Gifts has opened; The Southern Loft along with Three: Twenty-three Custom Creations has signage on the windows; and with Sunburst Trout leaving, a new business is already in the queue.

“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder … he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.” Rachel Carson

May you walk in beauty …… and share it with a little person
~ Carrie
