This Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year, 5783. As we look ahead and prepare for what’s to come, let’s also reflect on what matters most in our lives—our family, our friends, and the community in which we live. On behalf of Goodman JFS, I thank you for supporting our mission to offer vital social services to thousands of Broward County residents. You are what’s most important to us.
This past year, like the one before, was exceptionally challenging for so many. The pandemic has reminded us about the importance of community and the need to take care of each other. Isolation and loneliness are greater dangers than we think.
Judaism teaches us that we must take personal responsibility for building a future using the lessons of the past. As we usher in the High Holidays next month, let's not forget the vulnerable members of our community and let’s each do our part to make it a sweeter year for all.
Shana Tovah to you and your loved ones.

The Cupboard Corner: What's one more plate?
|
|
As food prices continue to surge, many in Broward struggle to fill their homes with groceries. The Dorit & Ben J Genet Cupboard aims to feed our community, especially with the High Holidays rapidly approaching.
Still, not all Jewish families in Broward are able to have a High Holiday meal this year. With that, we ask: what’s one more plate? Please help us meet our goal of providing 600 families and seniors with Rosh Hashanah essentials this year. Donate.

According to the National Center for PTSD, approximately 70% to 90% of adults over 65 have been exposed to at least one potentially traumatic event during their lifetime. Thanks to a grant from The JFNA Center on Holocaust Survivor Care and Institute on Aging and Trauma, we have created Silver CARE, a mindfulness-based, trauma informed treatment program for adults 60+ and their family caregivers.
Meet Dr. Engle, Silver CARE Program Director and Lead Therapist, and learn more about the program and why it’s so important to our community. Read the Q&A with Dr. Engle.
