Dear Friends,

Over the past several weeks, I have been deeply moved by the incredible outpouring of love, compassion and support my family and I have received following the passing of our beloved daughter, Carly, on October 28th at the age of 30. There are truly no words to express how much this kindness has meant to us. It has been a profound reminder of the power of community—the same sense of connection and caring that lies at the heart of everything we do at Goodman Jewish Family Services.

During this difficult time, I’ve reflected not only on the comfort that comes from being surrounded by such a loving community, but also on the lessons I continue to learn from Carly’s life. I discovered even more about the remarkable young woman she was—kind, thoughtful and always there for others in need. Living in New York, she developed meaningful relationships with the homeless individuals on her street corner. She knew many of them by name and made it a point to offer food, clothing, blankets and, perhaps most importantly, compassion and respect. Carly truly lived her values, and her caring spirit continues to inspire me every day.

As we approach the holiday season, a time of gratitude and giving, I am reminded of how many in our own community are struggling—those experiencing homelessness, and families facing food insecurity, especially as cuts to SNAP and Medicaid benefits take hold. Let us take this season as an opportunity to be thankful for the loved ones in our lives and to extend that same love and support to others who need it most.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your personal kindness and for standing with my family during our time of loss. And thank you for continuing to stand with Goodman JFS as we work to bring comfort, dignity and hope to those facing life’s most difficult challenges.

Sincerely,

Randy Colman

Highlights and Happenings

Feed the Need Luncheon

Thanks to the incredible generosity of this community, we raised more than $450,000 for our Dorit & Ben J. Genet Cupboard. Together, we’re easing the burden of food insecurity in Broward County and making sure children, families, vulnerable seniors and Holocaust survivors have access to healthy meals and the dignity they deserve.

We were delighted to celebrate our honorees, Holman Automotive, as well as the hardworking staff and volunteers of the Dorit & Ben J. Genet Cupboard, including longtime volunteer Pamela Gregg.

A special thank you to our Event Chairs, the Belfer family and Pamela Gregg, and to our entire Event Committee for creating an evening filled with heart and soul.

Donor Spotlight: Dorit & Ben J. Genet

“Once I realized there were poor, hungry Jews in Broward County, I felt obligated to step up... I was brought in by Steve Jackman, and when he explained that there were over 10,000 poor, hungry Jews in Broward County, I was shocked. It was something I didn’t understand. And I didn’t know how to say no to him.” That moment sparked a commitment that has only grown stronger with time, especially after Ben J. witnessed the life-changing impact of Goodman JFS firsthand...
