As the holiday of Purim approaches, our thoughts are with those in Eastern Europe — and we pray for peace. We also are thinking of our elderly Holocaust population in Broward for whom this significant global event hits even closer to home. Jewish perseverance lies at the heart of Purim, and we hope that you will be able to feel both the joy of this holiday and, simultaneously, the deep imperative to come together to support those in need – including many of whom have never needed assistance before. In times of crisis and social unrest, compassion can unify all of us as human beings. Please help us share the mission of Goodman JFS by ensuring that the basic needs are met in our community. Let’s take care of each other. Volunteer. Collect food. Donate money. Visit our elderly. Please reach out to us and we will help you find positive ways to support those around you who are suffering. We need it now more than ever.

Good Grants
The Claims Conference, which secures material compensation for Holocaust survivors around the world, recently announced the allocation of $720 million in funds to more than 300 social welfare organizations globally to support home care and supportive services for frail and vulnerable Holocaust survivors. As the third largest grantee, these critical funds will allow our Holocaust Survivor Assistance Program to continue to coordinate benefits and services tailored to meet our county’s survivor population with the unique healthcare, social, financial and emotional needs they need.

Good Deeds
In celebration of Purim, The Dorit & Ben J. Genet Cupboard partnered with its local synagogues to pack traditional gift bags (mishloach manot) filled with hamantaschen, groggers, sweet and salty snacks and beverages for Broward families in need.
|
|
Families of Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El packed over 500 bags during their Mitzvah Day and the Young Israel of Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale Sisterhood worked together to pack treats specifically for the 150 Holocaust Survivors that The Cupboard supports.
With thanks to our volunteers who help bring our mission to life, bags will be distributed through March 16, marking the beginning of the festive holiday of Purim.
