As I reflect on my first year as President and CEO of Goodman JFS, I have seen how small rays of hope can light up the darkest moments in one’s life. Like Hanukkah, one small divine miracle can create profound impact. Hanukkah represents human action, resilience and perseverance. As we usher in the Festival of Lights, the notion of sharing light with one another feels especially relevant this year.
I am inspired by YOU, our community of donors, staff, partners and volunteers. I am grateful for your dedication to our mission. Your unwavering support enables us to provide food, clothing, financial assistance, emotional support and much-needed light to those who need it most.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of Goodman JFS, I wish you and your families a bright Hanukkah and safe holiday season.
Sincerely,
|

Food insecurity is at an all-time high in Broward County. Increasing inflation has left more than 21,000 Jewish residents without access to sufficient food to meet their basic needs. The Dorit & Ben J. Genet Cupboard continues to respond by providing clients with nutritious kosher food, fresh produce, canned goods and frozen items. The Cupboard has fed more than 650 families per month and it nourishes hundreds of new families each year.

A special thank you to all who continue to support our 2022-2023 Campaign to Feed The Need. You can continue to give through the holidays and into the new year! Thanks to your generous support, so far we have raised $117,694 but we haven’t reached our goal yet and we continue to ask for your support. Together we can make a difference for individuals and families who need our help.
Listen to Suzanne and Yolande as they share their gratitude for The Cupboard.

On Tuesday, November 29, the world united for Giving Tuesday, a celebration of generosity. Goodman JFS participated in the global movement and raised more than $22,000 for our social service programs. And as 2022 comes to an end, the struggle for families continue to mount. Please consider donating if you have not already done so. There is still time. Our Broward County community is strong – let’s help it grow even stronger. Donate.

Hundreds of cars lined up for The Cupboard’s recent drive-through food distribution in Miramar last month. With support from Farm Share, Holman Automotive and dozens of volunteers, we distributed more than 20,000 pounds of food to Broward County residents suffering from food insecurity.
To volunteer for our next drive-through food distribution, please contact Michelle Pines at mpines@jfsbroward.org.

The second Silver CARE Wellness Fair at David Posnack Jewish Community Center brought a ray of sunshine to an otherwise rainy day. Dr. Khadil Hosein shared integrative medicine health tips and comedian and impressionist Josh Rosen entertained the audience with his uncanny portrayal of presidents Biden and Trump. Attendees enjoyed dancing with Brain Fitness Silver Sneaker Instructor, Sharon Veingrad, relaxing massages from Massage a la Carte and helpful insights from A and B Counseling, Mypsychiatrist.com and PregZen.
This service is supported by a grant from The JFNA Center on Holocaust Survivor Care and Institute on Aging and Trauma.

Holiday traditions build a sense of stability, comfort and joy. For many in Broward County who are struggling, traditions are often disregarded. However, thanks to a gift from Debt.com Chairman Howard Dvorkin and family, The Dorit & Ben J. Genet Cupboard provided Thanksgiving staples and kosher turkeys for 500 families this year. Volunteers and teens from Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El helped pack and decorate delivery bags to ensure clients could celebrate with dignity.

The Samuel and Beatrice Quittman Holiday Gift Fund was established at Goodman JFS by Mark and Brittany Mothner in honor of Mark's maternal grandparents to provide gift cards to families in need, giving parents the joy of purchasing the perfect holiday gift for their children. Each year so many donors continue to support the gift fund. Thank you to everyone and to Mark, Brittany, Max and Julie Mothner for their generous $10,000 donation.
