February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black leaders, educators, authors, and changemakers who have shaped our nation. It’s also a powerful reminder of the role literacy plays in unlocking opportunity, amplifying voices, and preserving history for future generations.
From storytellers like Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou to contemporary voices inspiring young readers today, literacy has always been a cornerstone of Black history and culture. Reading opens doors to self-expression, confidence, and possibility, especially for children who may not yet see themselves reflected in books or classrooms.
At the Children’s Literacy Center, we believe every child deserves access to the tools and support they need to become confident readers. By providing individualized, literacy-focused tutoring and mentorship, we help children build not only reading skills, but also a lifelong love of learning and belief in their own potential.
