KarmaGOOD KARMA & OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS
Help make a difference this holiday for so many in need!
Support our community partners by dropping off donated food and items to the studio and by attending one of the many special Holiday Karma Classes
taking place in December.

Winter is coming and the holiday season is just around the corner.  For Chrysalis House this means that there will be several women and families that will be calling Chrysalis House home for the holidays.  Chrysalis House averages about 12 women and 14 children during the holidays and for all of them we try to make the holidays as festive as possible during this difficult and stressful transition in their lives.  Like many homes ours is filled the smell of cookies baking, ornaments glittering and snowmen and snowwomen congregating in the yard.

It is thanks to the generosity and kindness of our community and neighbours that we are able to provide joy and cheer to the women and children staying with us.  Whether it is a yoga class at Beyond to de-stress, food from the Kanata Food Cupboard to prepare favourite dishes or donations of toys for under the tree we are thankful for all that we receive.  If you would like to make a donation to Chrysalis House click here to view our wish list, or you can call the shelter directly at 613-591-5991 ext. 221 and speak with a Shelter Program Worker.

Keep warm out there,

All of us at Chrysalis House

Meet Hyunjoo Ro...

How did you begin your yoga journey?

My yoga journey began in Vancouver in 2005, where I moved to from Korea after University. Studying a new language in a foreign country was stressful at times. My mind was working so hard studying, that I felt I needed something physical to also work my body and hopefully help me feel more balanced and alleviate my stress... read more

What are the differences you have experienced practicing yoga in other cities?

There are some differences in terms of the sense of yoga community which I have experienced living in Halifax, Ottawa, and Vancouver, all of which I enjoyed. Being in a larger urban centre, like Ottawa, affords greater access to learning resources, advanced workshops, and diverse instructors. Smaller centres like Halifax... read more

A Wonderful Night of Pink Fun!

Over 40 yogis were pretty in pink at the  Dress for the Cause DJ Yoga Fundraiser  held at Beyond on October 23rd. A live DJ provided music for two hours of yoga fun led by the Beyond team of instructors. This year's event raised $500.00 for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada. A huge thank you to all who came out and supported the cause!

Enjoy the video!

FUN FACTS FOR THE INQUIRING YOGI
Why is Savasana so good for you?

Savasana or corpse pose is usually done at the end of practice to prepare the body for final relaxation. You lie still on your mat with whatever support, cushion or blanket you need to release tension in any area of the body. It's your opportunity to absorb all the benefits of your practice and then unwind, release, and let go.  It can be the best part of the practice if you can manage to check out and shed, even if only for a few minutes all the tasks still left to do in your day...read more

WELLNESS TIPS WITH THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS TE

Deep Tissue Massage- Yay or Nay?!

Is deep pressure always better in a massage than light pressure? This question is often asked by clients! Deep tissue massage can play an important role in decreasing the tension found in deep muscle tissue, but it can also cause superficial muscles to tighten. It is important that muscle tissues be warmed either by kneading or the use of heat (such as that from a heating pad) before venturing into deep muscle tissue... read more...
