WFI brings White Pony Express Executive Director, Eve Birge; Operations Manager, Ana Bostick; and Distribution Center Manager, Gary Bostick, to Monterrey, Mexico in 2022 to create our first Shared Abundance Operations Manual for Mexico from which this food rescue program for women and girls in Veracruz, Mexico is modeled.

En preparación para nuestro programa de Rescate de Alimentos Compartiendo Abundancia, Alas de Amor, y la distribución en pequeña escala en Veracruz, WFI reunirá a líderes comunitarios, voluntarios, donantes y beneficiarios en un día de celebración y acción el 6 de noviembre, de 11:00am - 2:00pm.

Gracias al apoyo de TC Energía, lanzaremos nuestra primera mini-distribución de alimentos a 10-15 mujeres jefas de hogar en condiciones de necesidad en comunidades cercanas.

El evento de lanzamiento será el 6 de noviembre de 2023 en la Facultad de Contaduría y Negocios (FCN) de la Universidad Veracruzana. En él, se dará orientación e información del sentido del proyecto (11:00-12:00) y se llevará a cabo una pequeña distribución (12:00-2:00).

Así es como se planea el desarrollo del evento:

·      Exceso de alimentos frescos y/o no perecederos para las 10-15 familias será entregado en las instalaciones de la FCN por representantes de restaurantes locales y otros donantes de alimentos. Los donantes participarán como oradores en el desarrollo del evento y darán a conocer su apoyo.

·      Los beneficiarios y líderes comunitarios también serán oradores y compartirán sus experiencias sobre las necesidades de sus comunidades y cómo Alas de Amor los impactará, especialmente para apoyar a las mujeres y niñas.

·      A las 12 p.m., WFI dará la bienvenida a al menos 10 voluntarios de TC Energía en conjunto con al menos 10 estudiantes voluntarios de la Universidad de Veracruzana, y cada pareja seleccionará, empaquetará y cargará sus autos con alimentos y suministros para una determinada madre/jefa. del hogar necesitado. El Club Rotario de Veracruz también se sumará a esta distribución y ofrecerá sus vehículos para ayudar en el transporte de los alimentos. A cada equipo se le dará una descripción de la familia a la que sirven, la cantidad de miembros de la familia y cualquier otro detalle que podamos proporcionar en ese momento.

·      Después de entregar los alimentos/suministros, los voluntarios pasarán un tiempo con la familia y les preguntarán cuáles son sus principales necesidades en términos de alimentos y suministros, especialmente para ayudar a las mujeres y niñas de su familia. También aprenderemos más sobre la frecuencia, ubicación y horarios para recoger y entregar alimentos para cada familia.

·      Los voluntarios anotarán esta información en el cuestionario proporcionado por WFI y lo devolverán para que podamos trabajar con nuestro equipo de UV y donantes para adaptar los alimentos y suministros para nuestras distribuciones regulares de 2024 específicamente a estas 10-15 familias.

·      En noviembre, WFI, UV y UAM analizarán los aprendizajes del día y actualizarán su plan de implementación, así como los indicadores clave de evaluación de resultados para 2024.

A principios de 2024, tendremos en marcha un programa de rescate de alimentos compartiendo abundancia que brinde servicios a las familias, adaptados específicamente a sus necesidades y con la capacidad de moverse con agilidad según lo que mejor les sirva construir un programa sólido y de largo plazo. Comenzará con 10-15 familias y crecerá en número a medida que aseguremos un impacto real, directo y beneficioso que transforme sus vidas.

In preparation for our Sharing Abundance Food Rescue program, Alas de Amor, and small distribution in Veracruz, WFI will convene community leaders, volunteers, donors, and recipients all together in a day of celebration and action on November 6th, 11am - 2pm.

Thanks to the support of TC Energy, we will launch our first mini-distribution of food to 10-15 women heads of households in nearby communities of need.

The public launch with speakers and music will take place from 11am – 12pm, followed by the food distribution from 12pm – 2pm.

Here is how the day will work:

·     Excess fresh and/or non-perishable food for the 10-15 families will be delivered by local restaurant representatives and other food donors to the campus of the Universidad de Veracruzana, where these donors will participate in the public program and pledge their support.

·     The recipients and community leaders will also be speakers and share about the needs of their communities and how Alas de Amor will impact them, especially to uplift women and girls.

·     At 12pm, WFI will welcome at least 10 volunteers from TC Energy partnered with at least 10 student volunteers from the Universidad de Veracruzana, and each pair will select, package, and load their cars with the food and supplies for a given mother/woman head of household in need. The Rotary Club of Veracruz will also join us in this distribution and offer their vehicles to help transport the food. Each team will be given a description of the family they are serving, number of family members, and any other details we can provide at that time.

·     After delivering the food/supplies, the volunteers will spend some time with the families and ask them what their major needs are in terms of food and supplies, especially to help the women and girls in their family. We will also learn more about a helpful frequency, location, and timing for pick-ups and drop offs for each family.

·     The volunteers will write this information down on a template document provided by WFI and provide it to WFI so that we can work with our UV team and donors to tailor the food and supplies for our regular 2024 distributions specifically to these 10-15 families.

·     In November, WFI, UV, and UAM will run reconnaissance on the learnings of the day and update their implementation plan and KPI goals for 2024 accordingly.

·     By early 2024, we will have in place a shared abundance food rescue program that provides much needed services to families, tailored specifically to their needs, and able to move with agility according to what would best serve them to move from the margins to the mainstream. It will start with 10-15 families and grow in numbers as we ensure real, direct, and beneficial impact that is transformative for their lives.
