Opening Prayer
In the midst of every storm, God, we lift our voices to call out your name, and offer you our praise. Grateful for your steadfast actions, even as we face today’s challenges, help us remember Jesus’ baptism. You claimed him. You were pleased with him. Today, we give thanks that we, too, are claimed by baptism,
and claimed by you. Grant your Spirit to fill us today as we worship you, that you will be well pleased with us. Amen.
Prayer of Mercy
God of mercy who spoke creation into being long ago, and spoke to our ancestors through prophets and signs, we need you to speak to us and with us today through your son, Jesus. Speak into the voids in our times and in our lives that new life may emerge. Help us to listen when you speak, and to rejoice in the mercies that are freshly given this day.
We have been clothed and fed by your gifts. When fear has engulfed us, or we have faced the unknown, Christ our savior, has interceded on our behalf. Faced with decisions, we have been enlightened by your Spirit, and enlivened through your abiding presence. Compassion has yoked us with those ill and in pain. May your healing mercies strengthen and comfort all who are sick, isolated, and in need today.
You are the source of all hope and the architect of all that is good. Strengthen our faith and the ties of grace and service that bind us together. God bless our country today. Give us wisdom to move forward. As your commandments have served to direct our path, your discipline has kept our eyes focused on your way. As we acknowledge your faithfulness and your past mercies, we seek your guidance for the future. In the name of Jesus, amen.
