We are a part of something BIGGER...We are a part of God's movement for wholeness as faithful stewards of God's limitless love.

John’s Gospel records Jesus telling his disciples “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
(John 14:15)

You may remember from the other three Gospels how Jesus responded to the one who asked: “what is the greatest commandment?”

We know the greatest commandment as “love the Lord your God … and love your neighbor as yourself.”
Just as many of us have tried to demonstrate our love of Mothers today, we have this opportunity to demonstrate our love of God and neighbor as we receive our morning offering. Your gifts will help keep ministries flowing through this congregation to our community and to the wider world. Eager to show our love in response to God’s love made visible, let’s present our tithes and offerings.

Offering prayer

On this day we stand before you, God, and we rejoice in our relationship with you. We know love and have not been left orphaned because of you. We remember Jesus providing the Spirit as our Advocate, the ever-present Spirit, who will not leave us comfortless. We offer up these gifts as signs and symbols of our love for you and our gratitude for the Spirit among us. Please help us translate this offering into ways of building up this congregation and the ministries to which you call us. Use us, our talents and our treasure, to proclaim the Good News of your love, which we know best in Jesus the Christ. Amen

Opening Prayer

Transforming God, you have taken the world’s darkness and re-created a world filled with the joy of light and hope.

Restoring God, you have turned defeat into sudden victory, and re-created a world filled with the joy of peace and shalom.

God of love, made known to us in mothers, God mothers, spiritual mothers, chosen mothers, church mothers, grandmothers, and aunts, in simple and complicated relationships, we respond to your presence and power with songs of praise, sincere worship, and prayer. You alone are God!

Glory and honor, power and dominion belong to you alone. Amen.
Prayers of the People

God of all ages and God of all families, who sees and hears your people at all time. We have seen you acting and sustaining us as the school year ends and May flowers remind us that seasons change.

When all the odds seem stacked against us, we dare to be your people, to love those the world
would have us reject; to be just in the face of every reason to mistreat; to be unafraid of whatever awaits us.

Jesus our Savior, we dare to live as your sisters and brothers, serving others with our hands and hearts; sharing in the burdens of our world;
refusing to leave grace orphaned with no hope.

When the wind seems to be knocked out of us
by the blows of life, Eternal Companion, we dare to breathe peace into all the broken places around us; and audacity to listen for your still small voice in the ears of all those who have lost sight of you.

In you, we dare to live and breathe and be,
God in Community, Holy in One, even as we pray as we are taught, (The Lord's Prayer)
Scripture
John 14:15-21
(The Message version)
15-17 “If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!

18-20 “I will not leave you orphaned. I’m coming back. In just a little while the world will no longer see me, but you’re going to see me because I am alive and you’re about to come alive. At that moment you will know absolutely that I’m in my Father, and you’re in me, and I’m in you.

21 “The person who knows my commandments and keeps them, that’s who loves me. And the person who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and make myself plain to him.”
