Baruch Dayan Emes
May her memory be a blessing

It is with the deepest sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Bayla (Bartky) Burnham, of blessed memory. Bayla passed away on Thursday, June 7th and, in accordance with Jewish custom, funeral services were held immediately in Chicago on Friday morning.

Like all of you, we remain shocked, horrified, and profoundly sad. For Bayla, MJX was truly a labor of love, and you were her children. She invested incredible energy into your relationships. She loved you, and you are a very significant part of her legacy.

For this reason, we have created a space online for you to share your memories and reflections of Bayla: www.rememberbayla.com. Please share generously.  It will serve as both a testimony to Bayla and a treasury of invaluable memories for the family that she has left behind.

The family will be comforted by these submissions in real time, and we will also shortly convert the online content into an heirloom-quality book that they can read and cherish for generations to come. Bayla's students were a source of immense joy to her in her life, and now can provide a source of comfort to her family in her passing.

Many of you may also wish to reach out to Bayla's family or to Rabbi Ozzie.

Her parents can be reached here:

Rabbi Ozzie will be sitting shiva in various locations, but most relevantly for several days at his Silver Spring home - 826 Hyde Road, Silver Spring, MD - beginning Sunday at 12 noon through Tuesday morning. His home will be open to visitors until 9:30pm on Sunday and Monday evenings. Rabbi Ozzie can also be reached at (443) 414-5013.

Comforting a mourner is one of the most difficult mitzvos we are enjoined to perform. A conversation can be brief and awkward, yet Jewish law does encourage us to reach out to people during these intense moments of grief and to be present with them. Please know  that even a phone call would be very meaningful at this time.

We want to be here for you during this process as well. Rabbi K is currently leading a Birthright trip in Israel, but can be reached on his regular cell phone: (301) 403-8823, or by e-mail: rabbik@jterps.com.

More locally, Rabbi Zalman and Mariel are on the ground at home ready to share this pain together with you. Please reach out to them at any time:

Rabbi Zalman: (240) 381-0635 and rabbizalman@meor.org

Mariel: (301) 204-0799 and marielgoldstein18@gmail.com

Finally, we plan to create a memorial fund and other initiatives in Bayla's honor in the coming weeks and months. We will surely keep you informed of those programs, as they will require your input and participation.

May Bayla's memory be a blessing forever, and may her family be comforted among the mourners and Zion and Jerusalem.

With a heavy heart,

The Meor/MJX Family
