Dear Friends:
We've talked before about the new bivalent COVID booster shots. Apparently, others aren't as lucky: According to Wisconsin DHS, only about 1 in 5 people in the state know the boosters are available. This is a problem.
We are approaching winter with worrying signs that another wave is coming. Importantly, the indications are that the brewing storm is not driven by Omicron or other subvariants. Instead, it's seasonal changes making people spend more time indoors and next to one another.
If you're looking for a quick and effective way to protect your community, then, spread the word. Let your family, friends, neighbors and church members know:
-
Why boosters are important (they protect against multiple forms of COVID, and infections will soon be on the rise again)
-
Who can get them (everyone over the age of 12, at least two months since your second shot)
-
Where they can get them (pharmacies, health care providers, local health departments, {{ cough cough }} your church building when you host a mobile clinic)
There are lots of ways to share as well. In-person conversations are good. So are social media posts, such as a booster selfie on Facebook or Instagram. The Public Health Collaborative has sample posts available, as well as answers to tough questions about vaccination.
The Public Health Collaborative also has graphics available in both English and Spanish, perfect for sharing online, in church newsletters, or in a slide presentation. I've attached a couple below, or you can download an entire folder from the PHC website.
Like I said: quick, effective and important. Please consider sharing this information in your community.
Stay safe and stay together,
Rev. Daniel Schultz
Community Health Program Director
P.S.: Oh, hey, we're still looking for churches willing to talk about chronic disease prevention (such as high blood pressure, cardiac disease, or diabetes)! If you're at all interested—even just to discuss it—please let me know.
