WAMAL'S YEAR IN REVIEW
French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr wrote “the more things change the more they stay the same”. This past year has certainly lived up to that! So, what has “changed”? After a slow spring start, the summer exploded with opportunities to greet the public and share our mission again after being Covid restricted the past couple of years. In April we launched this monthly publication, the Malley MUSE, and have been grateful for all your positive feedback. And speaking of changes, check out our new WEBSITE at https://www.wamal.com! It is a work in progress that we hope will be easier to navigate across all platforms from desktop to mobile. Eventually it will provide behind-the-scenes improvements in data management that will help our volunteers more efficiently work with adopters and fosters!

We were also hit by several negative changes. The Spokane kennel we partnered with was sold and the new owner decided to discontinue our relationship, so we faced the challenges of less available kennel space. At the same time, we were dealing with a double whammy of ‘post-Covid’ realities-- an overwhelming number of surrendered pets AND a sharp decline in the number of adopters. This is a nationwide problem. But WAMAL dug deep and after careful brainstorming were able to upgrade our Malley Valley kennel facilities. Our capacity has increased 50%, from 8 to 12 kennels.
So, what has “stayed the same”? Our pack of incredible volunteers have put in countless hours of hard work infused with passion to meet the needs of our rescued pups! Since we are 100% volunteer run, our volunteers are our backbone, our muscle, and our heart. Our financial supporters ‘came to the rescue’ when our pups needed it, some paying for complicated and expensive surgeries. Our vet costs this year were upwards of $70,000! We held the “Raise the Rwoof” Fundraiser for the kennel upgrades and because of the generosity of supporters like you, were able to raise the needed funds.

Rescue is a 24/7/365 job, and we couldn’t do it without all of you, our WAMAL ‘pack’. As you honor us by giving the strength, encouragement, and financial support to continue rescuing and rehoming this amazing working Malamute breed, our strong dedication to our mission is renewed.

Would you like to help us continue to move forward and weather whatever changes are in store for us in 2023? Here are some suggestions - and remember all donations are tax-deductible!!

Adopt or Foster--Visit either of these links to learn more and complete the online applications needed to adopt or foster. (Adoption and Fostering is for WA and OR residents only)
Sponsor a Dog—your monthly donation goes towards the care and housing of one of our rescues until he or she is adopted, at which time sponsorship ends (or can be transferred to another dog.)
Volunteer—there are many ways to help: walk dogs, provide transport, attend events, join the adoption or foster teams. Have other talents that could benefit the dogs? Let us know!
Randy’s Fund—donations made to this fund are solely dedicated to care for WAMAL's senior dogs, who frequently require more specialized food, supplements, and veterinary care.
Spread the word—share our Facebook and Instagram posts. Recruit friends & family to foster, adopt, and volunteer. And contact us to get flyers & postcards to put up!
"Paws Up to Help” Donation Campaigndonate to purchase the essentials the rescue pups always need: food, treats, supplements, grooming, and vet appointments.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity and support all year long! We’d like to wish you and your family (including any fur babies of course) the happiest and healthiest of holiday seasons! May all your changes be good!!
LOOT 4 MOOTS ONLINE AUCTION WAS A REWARDING SUCCESS!
Our 4th annual L4M online auction was so much fun, and we raised close to $14,000 which surpassed last year by $4000! We had so many amazing and unique donations that we had to move the start of the auction out by 2 weeks so we could finish uploading descriptions and photos!!

Gigantic thanks to the entire Auction Team who jumped in to make this crazy event work, and to all of you who bid and shared about the auction. We’d also like to acknowledge all the great businesses—large and small—who donated such a plethora of great items—please support those businesses and individuals who support rescue!! Our auction platform (BetterWorld.org) is free to use and we all donate our time; so the money raised goes directly to the housing, feeding and care of our rescued Malamutes while they await their furever homes.
ADOPTABLE DOG SHOWCASE
Oh hey there - I see you've noticed my adorable smile! My name is Shelby and I was wondering if you might have some room in your home for a young mally girl who is on the smaller side?

WAMAL is helping me to get some needed work done on my teeth, and very soon once that's done I will be ready for my new home! I'm a loving, playful, active girl who generally does well with other dogs once we've established who is boss in the house (hint: it's me!).

I've been dealing with some allergy issues that can flare up and make my skin really red and itchy. I feel a *lot* better when I take allergy medicines so it's important that my new family keeps me on them and can afford them - currently they run around $80/month. If you ask me that's a small price to pay to see me happy and smiling!

So...wanna start the New Year off right with me by your side? Apply to adopt me today!
Hi everyone - I'm Kanga and I was wondering if any of you know a guy named Santa Paws? I hear he brings good dogs like me the things that they want for Christmas - and what I really want to ask him for is a home and family of my very own!

It can be tough for me to trust new people so my ideal family will be patient and calm, allowing me to be near them without pressuring me to cuddle or interact too much too soon. Other dogs can be a bit chaotic so I'd prefer to be your one and only! I'd love a safe space where I can go if I start to feel overwhelmed. But I'm curious and observant so if you take your time with me, you'll soon find me choosing to spend more of my time with you!

Long walks and hikes on quiet trails would be a great way to bond with me. Rewards-based, force-free training works great with me also!

I know with the right family I could make the Nice List every year. Please apply to adopt or foster me!
AND LASTLY...
The MUSE team will be taking a dog nap in January, but we’ll catch up with you all again in February! Take care and enjoy snuggling up with your favorite pup(s) in these cold winter months!!
