Sharpening Your Blade
Don't Get Cut Anymore!
I love sweet potato fries! Since I love them I decided to make them myself. As I was cutting the sweet potatoes one of the things I realized is that the knife that I was using was really dull. It was causing me to exert more strength just trying to cut them. So much so, that I literally cut my thumb not once, but three times. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize it wasn't advantages or even safe for me to keep using these dull knives. So, I went to the store a purchased a knife sharpener.
How many times do you have to be passed over for promotions before you realize that you need to sharpen your skil ls? A close friend of mine is as sharp as a whip, but because they would not get the necessary training to go to another level they were repeatedly passed over. It wasn't that they didn't know the work. They did. In many instances, they had to train the very person who took their job!
Just like it didn't take a rocket scientist for me to know that I needed to sharpen my knives, it shouldn't take one for a person to know when they need to sharpen their skills. Duh!
I find it amazing that there are so many people who have settled for less because they refuse to expand their knowledge base. Rather than try they elect not to sharpen their brains in order for them to become more competitive. Heck! You need to embrace learning simply just to keep up in our society.
Our society is moving full-speed ahead when it comes to technology. Rather than being on the cutting edge, there are those who have been cut off. They simply have dropped off because they are not willing to enlarge their mindsets through increased learning. Our knowledge base has changed from last year. If you have not done anything to expand your knowledge base you are already behind the eight ball.
Get real! By the time you purchase a computer thinking that you have the newest technology it has already changed. If you don't keep abreast of the facts you are going to find yourself cut off. If you don't believe me, just take a look at the auto industry.
For decades individuals worked jobs and earned hefty salaries. Many of them did not take advantage of the training that was offered. So, when it was time for layoffs to happen they had not developed new skills. They found themselves cut off. Just like I cut my thumb by using a dull knife, they were cut because of dull brains. In essence, because they had not sharpened their blades with wisdom, understanding, counsel and knowledge, they became unmarketable.
Everyday should be a new day of learning. Why? Because if we live to be 1,000-years old we will never absorb all that this world has for us. This world is forever changing and what we knew yesterday has become obsolete today.
What are you doing to make sure that your skills are not becoming dull and you can't cut it anymore? My recommendation, go get the necessary tools to sharpen your skills and don't cut yourself anymore!
