High Stakes: What’s Next for U.S. Policy on Iran? with AJC
Tuesday, May 11, 2021
11:00 AM
Having followed Iran’s malign behavior for decades, American Jewish Committee (AJC) took a lively interest in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) decision and debate, taking more than three weeks to confer privately with a wide range of leaders, including multiple times with Secretary of State John Kerry and Chief Negotiator Wendy Sherman. In the end, AJC opposed the accord, believing it was too risky.
In 2021, the world is different, the Middle East is different, and America is different. What have European, Israeli, and American policymakers learned from the last six years?
Join AJC Jerusalem Director Avital Leibovich, AJC Transatlantic Institute Director Daniel Schwammenthal, and AJC Chief Policy and Political Affairs Officer Jason Isaacson as they analyze what the next few months could bring.

Serenity Shabbat: In Solidarity with Addiction Recovery
Saturday, May 22, 2021
The organized Jewish community has come a long way in acknowledging addiction and supporting those who have struggled. JCFS Chicago and the Chicago Board of Rabbis invite you to continue this forward momentum. Serenity Shabbat: In Solidarity with Addiction Recovery is an important new way to lift the veil of shame and secrecy of addiction and extend our support to our community. It will celebrate the blessings of addiction recovery at congregations throughout Chicagoland on Shabbat Naso. In Parshat Naso, we find a spiritual basis for living that involves abstaining from intoxicants; the Torah teaches that one of the pathways to be close to God involves abstinence from mood altering substances.

Sunday, May 23, 2021
7:30 PM
In his talk, Eli Rabinowitz will describe special events including commemorations and reunions of descendants. “An important activity is to visit a local school—either physically or online, to engage with students, especially in towns where a few buildings with Jewish symbols, or cemeteries that often contain illegible matsevot, are the only tangible memories of a once thriving community,” he said.
Eli writes and manages dozens of JewishGen KehilaLinks and has written more than 750 blog posts. His articles have appeared in numerous publications, including Avotaynu: The International Review of Jewish Genealogy.
