OH. EM. GEE.

DOUBLE DIGITS, BABY! I can hardly believe it myself. When your business turns 10, you feel ALL the feels.

10 years ago, I announced to the world that I was going to start a production company under my own moniker for all different types of clients. BEST. DECISION. EVER.

Here I am, 10 years older but more importantly, 10 years wiser. Running your own business is NOT for the faint of heart. But man, if you want your heart to grow full of gratitude and passion and wisdom and clarity, then I encourage you to take that entrepreneurial leap.

From oodles of content created to collaboration with so many incredible clients, and three website iterations later, I’m proud to say that there have been countless lessons that I’ve learned along the way. I’ve pivoted from some of my original ideas and intentions and have landed in a place where I continue to grow and learn on the daily.

In celebration of my big milestone, I thought I’d share some powerful lessons with you.

TOP TEN THINGS I’VE LEARNED ABOUT BEING AN ENTREPRENUER *and one for good luck:

Negotiation is not the same thing as devaluation.

Think about that. Knowing your value and what you bring to the table is EVERYTHING. If you don’t believe in yourself, why the heck should anyone else want to work with you?

Starring: Me, Myself, and I.

I have never gone wrong by being my authentic self. When someone is being disingenuous, you can feel it. And, in my opinion, that just sounds like a whole lot of work. I may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if they aren’t consuming what I’m serving…thank you, next.

Kindness wins EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

‘NUFF SAID.

Collaboration is queen.

One of my favorite parts of being an entrepreneur is working with a fabulous array of people and organizations. Collaborating with other driven individuals is immensely satisfying. It’s a “we” thang.

If it’s not a “HELL, YEAH!” than it shouldn’t be a “yeah” at all.

Let’s face it. Only so many hours in the day and only one trip around the sun. Choose wisely, friends.

I’m practically perfect. *Key word: practically.

JK folks. Far from it. And that’s the beauty of it all; the point is to grow and change and learn from all the mistakes. Perfect is boring. Perfect is unsustainable. Perfect is pointless.

Give back. It feels f*n great.

All those people who buy whatever you’re selling, cheer you on, reach out with a kind word, show up in the audience…RECIPROCATE. It’s the best way you can show someone or an organization that you care about them.

“NO” is the most powerful word in the English language.

It took me a loooooong time to sit comfortably with declining things and saying “no” for the sake of my sanity. You know the drill; you can’t fill someone else’s cup if yours is empty.

When you actually get dressed and leave the house, it’s worth it.

I know, I know. I love my “work from home” uniform, too. But every time I dread going to that thing that I signed up for six months ago, I’m ALWAYS glad I went. (And, showered.)

Don’t dismiss how far you’ve come. Celebrate your wins. And then get back to work.

Push pause on constantly hitting the “What’s Next?” button and take a moment to look around with some gratitude. You’ve worked hard to get here, so take a beat. You’ve earned it.

I will wear high heels until the day that I’m no longer able.

TRUTH? I might not be able to dance the night away in my 5-inchers anymore, but that hasn’t stopped me so far. I feel different when I’m in my heels; they are an instant confidence boost. And, by gosh, they’re sooooo pretty. (And there are SO MANY of them.)

You might be wondering if I bought myself a new pair of shoes to mark the occasion. I did not. Instead, I treated myself to a new highlight reel so that I can share some of my fondest memories of the past 10 years with my fans, followers, and future clients.
