National Dairy Month

Originally established as a grocery/milk promotion in 1937, National Dairy Month now acts as a reminder of the health benefits that dairy products provide. They contain essential nutrients — including calcium, potassium, vitamin D, and protein. They also reduce the risk of high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and certain cancers, while helping us to better manage our weight. Kick start each day with nutrient-rich dairy products and start your summer on a healthy note.

There’s no moo-staking the facts about dairy!

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) released the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), which reinforces the importance of consuming three daily servings of dairy foods like milk, yogurt and cheese.

  • Adding milk with meals is an easy and delicious way to get the 13 essential nutrients your body needs.

  • People who are sensitive to lactose can consume dairy foods that are lactose-reduced or lactose-free.

  • Dairy farmers are dedicated and take pride in caring for their cows by working closely with veterinarians to keep their cows healthy and comfortable. Dairy cows receive regular checkups, vaccinations and prompt medical treatment.

Community Health Worker Appreciation - June 15th

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are frontline public health workers and have a critical role in reducing health disparities, increasing access to care, and coordinating comprehensive care for individuals. This care is essential to assist families to adopt and maintain behavior change skills needed to manage their health, and to overcome barriers encountered in the health care system. By providing a wide variety of services and health information in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner CHWs can extend the reach and quality of health care services to improve health outcomes.

The work of CHWs helps to build individual and community capacity to improve health status by:

  • Offering culturally-responsive education in easy to understand language to increase health knowledge and self-sufficiency

  • Teaching and supporting families to learn the knowledge and skills needed to manage treatment and prevent disease

  • Linking communities to health and social service systems of care and helping them to navigate the systems to overcome barriers;

  • Expanding the health care workforce in underserved communities

  • Informing the clinical care team of social aspects of the family's life that may impact the treatment plan

  • Advocating for services to meet community needs, and empowering individuals and communities to advocate for their health

Thank you to CherPao and Dalila, our Bilingual Community Health Workers for all the services you provide to our community!
