"No wipes down the pipes"
"NO WIPES DOWN THE PIPES" is a campaign to keep cloths, rags, non-flushable wipes, and flushable wipes out of the sanitary sewers. The wastewater community experiences significant issues and expenses from clogged private and public sanitary sewers and pumps due to the wide spread use and marketing of "flushable" wipes. Once the wipes are in the sewer pipes, they get hung up on roots and grease and tangled up in pumps. Wipes are one of the biggest causes of sanitary sewer backups.

I have been with the Sheboygan Police Department for 14 years. Before being transferred to the Beat Officer position, I was the School Resource Officer at Sheboygan South High School.
In 2016, the Sheboygan Police Department received a grant to create a Beat Officer position. I was selected to develop this position in four South side neighborhoods including King Park, Franklin Park, The Flats, and Indiana Corridor. One of the main goals in the first year of this

Checking items out from the library is about to become much easier.
Mead Public Library is a couple months away from installing automated book-checkout stations that won't require users to search for and scan a bar code. Instead, patrons can simply place items on the new machines - and the equipment does the rest.

The journey to becoming a Neighborhood
Association
by Penny Weber, President of Sheboygan Neighborhood Pride
In the fall of 2014, Sheboygan Police Officer Stephen came to me and said he wanted to organize a neighborhood group in the Indiana Corridor Neighborhood. He said residents were concerned about the speed of traffic on Indiana Avenue and also about an abandoned gas station located there. As a board member of Sheboygan Neighborhood Pride, I said I would be willing to assist him. This was the beginning of Indiana Corridor Neighborhood's journey to becoming a city-recognized neighborhood association. Read more here

Great Lakes communities gear up to battle Trump's budget
As the Federal government is starting to discuss their budget, one of the items that has caused some concern is that the Great Lakes Restoration initiative will be reduced 97%. The GLRI provided $58M in funding to the Sheboygan River Area of Concern cleanup. In addition the GLRI also provided 50% matching support or $250,000 to the North and South Side Beach Filtration Project that was installed last Fall.
Earlier in March, I received a visit from Emily Holden, E&E News reporter from Washington, D.C. She visited Sheboygan to observe the positive impacts on Sheboygan after the Sheboygan River ADC cleanup. I arranged a tour of the affected area and asked several local partner organizations to be interviewed for this article. I hope that you find her article interesting and that the story about Sheboygan helps in the effort to restore full funding to the Great Lakes Restoration initiative.
