COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

UPDATE: LONG RANGE PLANNING TASK FORCE

Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.”

The Long-Range Planning Task Force (LRPTF) submitted their findings to Council on April 9th and briefly shared these findings at the most recent Coffee with Council, on April 21st. The council is currently reviewing the research and will provide comments and areas that need further clarification or action by the LRPTF. The final submission to the congregation will take place at our Semi-Annual Meeting on June 2nd. This will also be passed to the Call Committee which will also be announced at the Semi-Annual Meeting.

Some of the Core Values of the LRPTF findings discussed at Coffee with Council were:

  • We are proudly Lutheran and need to maintain this as we evolve.

THIS SUNDAY

  • Two Can Sunday and Hefty Orange Bag recycling. This month we will be delivering our two cans to Papa's Pantry. Hefty orange bags are available in Fellowship Hall for a small donation for those harder to recycle items.

  • Outreach Committee will meet between services in the Meeting room following the 8:30 AM service.

  • There is a youth parent meeting following the 8:30 AM worship service in Fellowship Hall. We will be discussing Sunday school, confirmation and Youth Sunday.

  • Confirmation class meets for their last class at 12:15 PM.

  • Family Fun Activity this Sunday at Bruster's on Eagle Drive at 1:30 PM. We would love to see as many families as possible join us. After all, who doesn't love ice cream?

  • Book study on the book, "Just Mercy " continues at 4 PM in Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to join us. Many of our members continue to be moved by what they witnessed during their recent trip to Alabama. Below is a reflection from member, Karen Epstein.

I’m not really sure what I expected when I signed on to travel to Montgomery with other members of GSLC to tour The Legacy Museum, Memorial, and Sculpture Garden. I thought I was fairly informed – I had learned and studied about slavery in school, I understood the history and, while I can never really understand completely, I recognize I am a product of white privilege regardless of whether I sought that out or not. But honestly, after visiting Montgomery, I realize that I know and understand very little.

Incredibly moving, eye-opening, overwhelming, sickening, life changing…. I could go on for days sharing what I saw, felt, and experienced. But, alas, I have only been given a paragraph 😊

There was so much that picking one or two things that struck me especially deeply is hard…..sickness, captivity, beatings, separation from family, the floor of the Atlantic littered with the discarded remains of those who did not survive the voyage, lynching's (as late as 1972!!!!), and incarceration for the smallest of offenses.
