COMMUNION AT GOOD SHEPHERD

As we conclude the exchange of peace during worship, two things happen simultaneously. We bring forward our gifts for the mission of the church and the care of those in need, as well as set the table for the celebration of communion. These two things, offering and communion,

represent the fruits of the earth, the work of our hands, and our very lives as they are presented to God with thanks and praise. Offertory hymns like “Let the Vineyard be Fruitful Lord,” inform what is happening in this action. Likewise, an Offertory Prayer focuses our intention.

Blessed are you, O Lord our God, maker of all things. Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts. With them we offer ourselves to your service and dedicate our lives to the care and redemption of all that you have made…

You’ll notice that this week we’ll begin using what’s called a “credence table” to hold the elements before and after communion. This is not new, but a practice used in the past at Good Shepherd.

We hope seeing the empty table at the beginning of worship will heighten our sense of expectation. We can then embrace the table filled with abundance during communion then emptied again, sending us out into the world - fed, nourished, and sustained for a life of faith and service.

We hope this small change will be meaningful for all who commune at Good Shepherd.

A BIG THANK YOU to all that have donated items for our local homeless veterans! We put together 130 hygiene kits with personal notes of love and reassurance last week for God's Work, Our Hands Sunday.  During our time together, we also stuffed 200 bags for Trunk or Treat and put together around 160 Halloween treats for the preschool Halloween parade.

Sunday evening September 10th MIM (Men in Mission) served the evening meal for approximately 40 men at The Extension, a Drug Rehab facility located in Marietta.

MIM is also scheduled to provide another meal for the men at The Extension Sunday evening December the 10th, Currently the Youth Group is planning on also being there to serve and prepare the meal.

Do you have leftover paint in your garage that you don't know what to do with? We have investigated responsible ways to recycle leftover paint. The Cherokee County Recycling Center on Blaylock Road will accept cans of paint for recycling. Their fee is $5.00 for a one gallon bucket and $10.00 for a five gallon bucket.

GARDEN OF GRACE: Our garden continues to produce vegetables for the food insecure in our own communty. We are now harvesting okra as well as tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. If you have vegetables from your own garden that you would like to donate, please leave in the Fellowship Hall and we will add them to our harvest. Our garden pickers work hard picking vegetables at least twice per week. Thanks be to God!

Help needed for Grace House Food Pantry

Hello! I hope everything is going well for you at Good Shepherd. I am Michael Williams and I am one of the passion collective interns at Grace House this year. I am really excited to be apart and experience what Grace house has to offer to students and the community it is in and around. My part as an intern is to help out and run the food pantry and outreach to communities to connect and support those who need it. As classes and students start to pick up around Tech I am reaching to ask for donations to the food pantry.

It could be a scammer trying to steal your personal and financial information. Unfortunately the church staff and members are often targeted for these schemes.
