TWO-CAN SUNDAY and HEFTY RECYCLE

Bring your two cans of food this Sunday for Papa's Pantry, one of our smaller local food pantries and place in the designated shopping cart. They are always so grateful for our contributions. We will also collect those hard to recycle items in regular white trash bags (no need to use the orange ones). We will continue to collect a free will donation in Fellowship Hall, to offset the cost of the orange bags that will be placed around your bags later in the week when items are brought to the recycler.

GSLC CALL COMMITTEE NEWS

The Call Committee continues its work on the search for a new pastor.

Ask a committee member to share one of these blue prayer cards with you. It is our hope that you will take these home and keep GSLC in your prayers as this process continues.

Please place candy & trinkets in the designated bin in the Fellowship Hall.

This week’s Favorite hymn or song, “Borning Cry”, was selected by Sandy Cerstvik “I have lots of favorite hymns, but I think my most favorite hymn is ‘Borning Cry’.  Jesus says he was ‘there to hear our borning cry’ and he was there through all the stages of our lives until we ‘close our weary eyes’ and die. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Faith Stories: Rm 117: Book study on “Life Together” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Coffee and Conversation: Rm 118: continuing “Examining Our Faith” series. Our study is titled "Faith of a Woman Who Loved Jesus".

Men in Mission: Rm 116: Various topics and discussions just for men.

Chase would love to see more youth in both the Chancel Choir and Bell group. Please contact him if you have questions or interest.

These rehearsals will continue weekly or as noted by Pam or Chase.

Monday, September 2nd, the church office will be closed in observation of Labor Day.

Office help is requested for the week of September 22nd. We have 3 hour morning and afternoon shifts for Tues-Thurs. Please consider taking a time slot to help in the office during this time. Sign up here.

THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY

Thursday Bible study with Pastor Karen will continue this Thursday with our study of Exodus. Bring your Bibles.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Theology on Tap will meet next at HICKORY FLA KITCHEN, on Wed. Sept. 11th located at, 6205 Hickory Flat Highway Ste 112, Canton, GA, 30115.

Topics change each time we meet so no need to worry about missing anything. As always, everyone is welcome to share some food, laughs, and open conversation in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 11th, at 11AM, for our member Ray Smith who entered into eternal life on August 27th. A light luncheon will follow the service in Fellowship Hall. If you are interested in helping with the luncheon, a short meeting will be held after the Traditional Service this Sunday, in Fellowship Hall.

WEDNESDAY LUNCH AND LEARN

Will resume on Wednesdays, at 11:30 AM. Bring your lunch. Our new study is “Luke in the Land”, by Kristi McLelland . We will start on Wednesday, September 4th and meet in the Meeting Room. Contact the group if you are interested through the church office.

WORD ON WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY

Word on Wednesday will resume Wednesday. September 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. (Please note the date change!) Both in-person and Teams options are available. New topic for the Fall: More Beautiful Than Before-How Suffering Transforms Us by Steve Leder. The book is available on Amazon. Along with the book we will study people in the Bible who were transformed through their suffering. Please contact Lori Peters through the church office for more information. 

NEW MONDAY BIBLE STUDY | REVELATION | SEPT 23rd

What words come to mind when you hear the Book of Revelation mentioned? Scary? Weird? Confusing? Join us for an 8-week study of the last book of the Bible, and we'll try to make it less scary, weird, or confusing. Starting on Monday, Sept. 23, there will be two options for the study- in person at the church at 1 pm or online via Teams at 7 pm. If you are interested, please contact Holly Jones or sign up at Sign Up Central in Fellowship Hall. 

LUTHERAN COALITION FOR HABITAT

Lutheran Coalition is a group of area churches that sponsor builds for Habitat for Humanity. Their biggest fundraiser is in September called Taste of Habitat and they need Chefs and are now selling tickets. 

The annual "Taste of Habitat" event this year will be held on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:00 PM, at The Phase Family Center/Phase Events Center, 12150 Morris Road, Alpharetta. Tickets are $40. See Max Epling or Mike Dooley to purchase them.

Showcased at the event will be two trips for an amazing price that will benefit the Lutheran Coalition with every reserved trip. One to Tuscany Italy and One on an African Safari. Click on the trips to check them out, they are spectacular opportunities. The Coalition is also selling raffle tickets 1=$20 or 3=$50. The winner will receive ½ of the amount collected, the other half will go to the Coalition. Get more information on sponsorships and being a chef here. Both are great ways to participate.

Handmade Card ministry at GSLC

ALL OCCASION cards are available for a suggested donation of $2.00 per card. All proceeds will support our Good Shepherd Youth Mission Trips. This ministry is being hosted by Molly Maher, Linda Rowell and Pam Hough. Thank you for your wonderful support of this GSLC ministry.

We received a limited supply of HAND PAINTED CARDS from a local artist. They are beautiful and unique. Get yours while they last! Most of the cards we provide are “one of a kind” cards, making them special for anyone who receives one.

We continue our recycling initiatives. We appreciate all help from congregation members to keep these items out of landfills. 

1. ORAL CARE WASTE

2. HEFTY ENERGY BAGS: (first Sunday of the month) Please remove labels, Use regular white kitchen bags. We will continue to collect a free will donation to offset the cost of the orange bags that will be placed around your bags in Fellowship Hall.

We need to remove labels from these bottles try these methods:

1. Warm the label in the sun
2. Use a hairdryer for heat
3. Put bottle in a glass of very hot water

7. DRAKE HOUSE: SEASONAL, clean and like new ladies professional clothing donations. Look for the big orange drop-off bin in Fellowship Hall.

8.METAL RECYCLING: Drop off your scrap metals in the white 55-gallon drum located at the north side of the garage and we will take it to the Metal Recycler in Woodstock.

EMPTY NESTER'S CHRISTMAS EVENT

Event: "A Tuna Christmas" play at the Canton Theatre, then dinner at Local on North

Date: Sunday, December 15, 2024

Time: Play begins at 2:30 pm, dinner is reserved for 5:00 pm

Sign-Up: In Fellowship Hall

Cost: Pay up front for dinner and show to reserve your spot by Sept. 15th. Make checks ($67.00 pp) out to GSLC with "Empty Nester's Christmas" on the memo line and place in offering plate, or put in the box outside the office.

This is our submission form for you to submit non-urgent prayer concerns. Prayers will be posted to the Prayer Circle, via e-mail, during normal business hours, usually around 3 PM. As always, if you have an urgent prayer request, please contact Pastor by cell or email. 

If you would like to pray for others, as part of our prayer circle, please contact our Media Coordinator and she can add you to the Prayer Circle group.
