GSLC CALL COMMITTEE NEWS

The Call Committee continues its work on the search for a new pastor.

Did you notice? The bus has moved again! The Call Committee has received approval of the MSP from Council and the MSP will be sent to the Jonathan Hemphill, Assistant to the Bishop for Congregational Life, at the Southeastern Synod.

Continue to keep an eye on the road in Fellowship Hall to see our progress! A great visual to track the Call Committees progress.

If you have any questions, please ask us! We invite you into a conversation with as much information as we can give, understanding that some information must remain confidential. Look for our blue name tags or email us at callcommittee@gslutheran.org.

Ask a committee member to share one of these blue prayer cards with you. It is our hope that you will take these home and keep GSLC in your prayers as this process continues.

SOUTHEASTERN SYNOD VOTES

 Good Shepherd joins in the ELCAvotes Initiative! Continuing this Sunday, members of the Social Justice Task Force will have tables in Fellowship Hall between services starting at 9:30. Congregants can check their voting status or polling location, ask questions, and receive pertinent voting information prior to the October 6^th Georgia voter registration deadline. We hope this will connect GSLC even further to the community, as well as supporting and encouraging all to hear God's call to be active citizens. See //www.elca.org/vote for more info. MONDAY BIBLE STUDY | REVELATION

What words come to mind when you hear the Book of Revelation mentioned? Scary? Weird? Confusing? Our 8-week study continues of the last book of the Bible, and we'll try to make it less scary, weird, or confusing. There will be two options for the study- in person at the church at 1 pm or online via Teams at 7 pm. If you are interested, please contact Holly Jones or sign up at Sign Up Central in Fellowship Hall. 

NEW MEMBER SUNDAY

Come and celebrate with us on October 6th, during both services, as we worship and praise and receive members taking their first communion and joining us in membership. Thanks be to God!

STEWARDSHIP HARVEST FESTIVAL

OCTOBER 13th - YOUTH SUNDAY (10:45 AM)

We need our youth to sign up for various roles for our 10:45 AM service. Youth members please sign up to serve today!

PUMPKIN PATCH EVENT

Join us at Cagle’s Farm for over 25 fun family activities from the corn maze, to pig races, cornhole and an even a petting farm. Don’t forget you can also snag a pumpkin at this outing! We look forward to having all families—- ones with littles, or not so littles, and even those without youth to join us on Sunday, October 13 at 2pm for our family fun activity. Cagles Farm is located at 362 Stringer Road Holly Springs, GA 30115

YARN ANGELS

Our next meeting will be at the home of Susan Epling, on Monday, October 14th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Contact the church office if you have any questions.

THEOLOGY ON TAP is BACK TO GAME DAY IN OCTOBER

Theology on Tap will meet next at GAME DAY, on Wed. October 9th located at, 2990 Eagle Dr., Woodstock, GA 30189.

Topics change each time we meet so no need to worry about missing anything. As always, everyone is welcome to share some food, laughs, and open conversation in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

LOOKING FOR CAR DECORATORS for OCTOBER 30TH!

This is such a fun time to participate in with our local community and GSLC friends. It's easy to do, premade kits are available on Amazon and thru Oriental Trading or just get creative on your own. See last years photos!

THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY

Thursday Bible study with Pastor Karen meets Thursdays, at 10 AM, in Fellowship Hall. Bring your Bibles.

WEDNESDAY LUNCH AND LEARN

Bring your lunch, gather and study. Our current study is “Luke in the Land”, by Kristi McLelland . We meet in the Meeting Room at 11:30 AM. Contact the group if you are interested through the church office.

WORD ON WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY

Word on Wednesday meets, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Both in-person and Teams options are available. New topic for the Fall: More Beautiful Than Before-How Suffering Transforms Us, by Steve Leder. The book is available on Amazon. Along with the book we will study people in the Bible who were transformed through their suffering. Please contact Lori Peters through the church office for more information. 

Handmade Card ministry at GSLC

ALL OCCASION cards are available, most for a suggested donation of $2.00 per card. All proceeds will support our Good Shepherd Youth Mission Trips. This ministry is being hosted by Molly Maher, Linda Rowell and Pam Hough. Thank you for your wonderful support of this GSLC ministry.

LOOK FOR WAX SEALS!

Look for new cards that have beautiful wax seals on the fronts. Once again, the cards provided are mostly one of a kind and a wonderful gift for anyone who receives one. Also, there are a few hand painted cards left that were donated to GSLC from a local artist. Surely someone you know would love to get one in the mail!

CARING FOR CREATION

We continue our recycling initiatives. We appreciate all help from congregation members to keep these items out of landfills. 

1. ORAL CARE WASTE

2. HEFTY ENERGY BAGS: (first Sunday of the month) Please remove labels, Use regular white kitchen bags. We will continue to collect a free will donation to offset the cost of the orange bags that will be placed around your bags in Fellowship Hall.

3. BATTERIES: (Size D and smaller)

6. PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE BOTTLES

We need to remove labels from these bottles try these methods:

1. Warm the label in the sun
2. Use a hairdryer for heat
3. Put bottle in a glass of very hot water

7. DRAKE HOUSE: SEASONAL, clean and like new ladies professional clothing donations. Look for the big orange drop-off bin in Fellowship Hall.

8.METAL RECYCLING: Drop off your scrap metals in the white 55-gallon drum located at the north side of the garage and we will take it to the Metal Recycler in Woodstock.

Chase would love to SEE MORE YOUTH in both the Chancel Choir and Bell group. Please contact him if you have questions or interest.

These rehearsals will continue weekly or as noted by Pam or Chase.

CHURCH CALENDAR

This is our submission form for you to submit non-urgent prayer concerns. Prayers will be posted to the Prayer Circle, via e-mail, during normal business hours, usually around 3 PM. As always, if you have an urgent prayer request, please contact Pastor by cell or email. 

If you would like to pray for others, as part of our prayer circle, please contact our Media Coordinator and she can add you to the Prayer Circle group.
